This sub is overall, good for most semi competition level 15's it definitly beats the crap out of a JL (the one a step down from the W7) and many other woofers I have put it up to before, if you get this woofer build a decent sized SEALED box about 2.50-3.25 cu. ft. and I recommend a JBL powervalve 1200.1 amp with this woofer, not a bad buy at all.
I own the HX2 RFD2115-which is the same thing, except dual 2ohm voice coils instead of dual 4ohm. I never had big subs before these, just some alpine 10 inchers. Holy SH*T!, Man do these things pound! I can't even crank them up all the way because my rear window begins to rattle like it's gonna crack and the sound of the world becomes dim as your hearing is suddenly impaired. -These subs are the bottom line on bass, I can hear bass tones in a song I never knew were there before. I have these hooked up to a Boss RIP896 2000watt amp, bridged so each is running 1000peak per sub in a 2ohm load, probably somewhere around 450-500rms, which is safely below what the rms rating of the speakers is anyway. **Something I don't see a lot of people not in a review is how these bass monsters sound on rock songs. They absolutely destroy your car on rap and bass orientated music-(Linkin Park, Incubus for ex) -You'd think that for a huge speaker it would have a hard time reacting to fast paced, unsteady bass in a rock or punk song-NOT SO, the Thiel Paramaters (the measurements of much the cone moves during operation) on these speakers are above average, and they move great to rock music as well as rap and techno. Try some Lynard Skynard "Simple Man" and you will wonder where the woofers were in the 70's! These speakers move fast (as long as you have the wattage to drive them) *BUT! I will admit that on some songs (Some Metallica drum solos for ex) the bass is just too fast paced for the speakers to catch up, but only a pair of 10's would be able to give you crisp base at that speed. -LAST WORD-GET'EM, These monsters are made for smaller SEALED enclosures, you can port or slot, but they sound better with sealed. They drop it low, but can move it fast and catch those base tones that are right below the highpass range-so your music sounds full. If you like the soundwaves commin' from your back seat to tingle your arm hair and make teh people around you turn their radio down to see if their engine is making a rumbling noise-then these subs are for you!
these speakers hit harder than any speaker that's out there but just have to have the the right amp i recommend to get a punch 800 or mtx 942 .
