Product Reviews For JL Audio 13w7

  • I have the pleasure of riding in a Navigator with 2 JL Audio 13.5in W7's in the back. Contest level subs. This the loudest, smoothest, and the most expensive subs in existence. The subs will never miss pitch. These subs can be heard and felt(no lie) 2 city blocks away. If you own these or are going to purchase them, enjoy the attention, and don't forget your earplugs.

  • I own two of this JLW7 here but I can honestly tell you guys that are interested in get it. Get it from this website because you know what I pay $1100 each for mine. These sub give great sound and they are very rare and ( your friends won't have one hahaha!!)

  • I recently purchased a JL Audio 13w7 and JL Audio 1000/1. I was completely dissatisfied. The bass sounds good at low volumes but if I crank it up my highs completely overpower this sub. The amp overheats like crazy and goes into protection after about 15 minutes of use at 3/4 of the receivers power. At this moment I am trying to sell it and I'm going with two 12w6v2 subwoofers which I heard firsthand and it completely crushed the 13w7. Fair warning don't waste your money on this speaker go with the w6 instead.

  • By far the best sub on the market. I have 5 of these working off of 3 rf 700x amps. I have cracked both of my back windows and have been pulled over more than a dozen times. A little high in price but worth it. Hits almost all tones, low and high. I would recommend to anyone.

  • I have been reasurching and doing car audio installs and reasurch and statistics and economics for around 4 years now. The Dub 7 by JBL blows away the competition with the exception of Diamond audios earthquake. These subs are over priced because they are a big name contender in the super heavy weight competition of the loudest subs. If you pull your head out of your asses and realize that using the JBL 1000.1 is not the best set up then you will finally reach the audiopile sq, and amazing spl you want and need if you are seriously considering this sub. Hook this up to a JBL either 1200.1 or the 2000.1 and you will make a statement, all the equipment wont match but you will get all the notes, and all the looks as you shatter your rear windows. All in all one of the best if not the best sub money can buy, but only money can buy this sub. seriously though 177.6 db is the world reccord set by a bunch of german scientists. Amazing sub not so amazing price but if phazed correctly with prolly 25 farad cap this thing can do dammage in spl sq, and your pockett book. However i am not opposed to this after all i choose two of them to grace my car!

  • I own a car audio shop in Houston and we carry this item. I don't know why everyone on this board is saying this is the best sub in the world hands down. We do lots of installations and let me tell you this is with out a doubt not the best sub. I don't think it would be in the top 5. I am running 3 10" Fosgate Power HX2's (RFR3110) and these (W7's) subs don't even match up to the Fosgate Power series 10" woofers. You should not look and find the most expensive sub and buy it. This sub has problems hitting different frequencies and over is too expensive for what you get. With 2 10" Power HX2's I am hitting 157 spl with the 13w7 142 spl. I know it doesn't seem like much but believe me 15 is a huge difference. If you are looking at these, do yourself a favor and pass. If you really want to spend this kind of money and have a unique sub go with the Kicker solo X. The solo X demolishes this sub and puts it to rest. If you are stuck on JL the W6 is a far more superior sub.

  • they can handle 4000 watts contunious you need at least 1000 watts so you dont harm the sub 6000 watts is the max but waranty voids any where after 4000 watts. I am putting 3 in a 2002 honda civic si hatch back with 3 phoenix gold 1000x2, bridged is 4000 watts a sub. Say good by hatch and windos

  • the 13w7 isnt the loudest sub in the world. pioneer's 5000spl 12" hits at just under 180 db, but no other sub on the market combines INCREDIBLE sound quality and high spl's like the w7s. I have a 12w7, my girl has a 13 in an eclipse and a friend of mine has a 10 in his eclipse and we love these things. The 1000/1 does a better job that people think of pushing the 13s. By the way, some dude said that the soloX are the greatest in the world or something-thats only if ur into competition. The 18" SoloX is a pain in the a$$. sure its alright if you have lexan windows and room for the 6 cubic foot box. nobody likes cheap people, just get a w7

  • First of all, this is not the most expensive sub. Neither is it the loudest or the best at sound quality. But no other sub in the world sounds as good as the W7 at the SPL this sub is capable of. There are tons of subs out there that can break records, but the 13W7 hits that bottom octave like no other sub out there-something that SPL subs don't. If you want bass that goes all the way down to the lowest frequencies and sound quality, all while acheiving uber-loud SPL-this is your sub. Just ask Car Audio and Electronics-they gave the 10W7 the best rating of any sub. Ever. Just think how much lower and louder a 13-inch sub will go. All you idiots out there that say it sucks-its your fault not the subs. Dual 1.5-ohm voice coils are nothing to mess with-make sure you have an amp that can handle that load. This sub may be expensive, but then again you are getting the most technologically advanced sub in the world. So if you want low, loud bass that sounds better than anything else, stick with the 13W7.

  • This is by far the best subwoofer i have ever purchased. I have 2 of them running with 2 JL 1000/1 amps. I Too have several dry cell batteries in the back of my navigator. I dont remember how many times ive been pulled over, and ive replaced the back glass twice...

  • The W7 is way over-rated. Im a certified car audio installer and I build custom subwoofer boxes at Mr. Tunes and I install alot of these, but everyone buys them because of the false comments they hear. Everyone says this is the best sounding and loudest sub but its not. I've had the privledge to work with Team Rockford Fosgate and compete in their formula D events and i run all rockford fosgate equipment. If you have the budget and 1 ohm stable amps, go with two TRF 2212 subs. these things will kill your car. Our last install was in 2004 Ford Excursion and Team RF won by almost 24 db. (Note: only buy these if your a serious car audio fanatic) these arent cheap subs and will require serious constant power. We had 6 semi batteries and 4 heavy amperage alternators running these. Its also a good idea to have a big capacitor.

  • I own a 10 W7 and I must say it's a great sub, but you have to remember it's a BOOM sub not a Sound Quality sub. The W7 is the most powerful sub I have ever tested and heard and they hit like no other. Although the sound quality is above average, it's not as good as a JL Audio W6. The W6 is a better Sound Quality Sub than a W7 however if you want Raw Power go W7 if you want the best Sound Quality go W6. Make sure you have them installed by an authorized dealer and give them thier matching power requirements. I would not overpower them or underpower them.

  • I just had my 13w7 insalled in my blazer i have had a chance to really mess around with the amp that is powering it, but the sound quality it amazing you not only hear it your feel it. its louder than any speaker i have ever had. i have a MA Audio 1800 watt amp pushing it and its not even enough to push it, i would really reccomend the jl 1000/1 amp for it. its expensive but well worth it if you have the money to spend

  • This woofer is INSANE... If you buy one of these and a JL 1000.1 it will blow away 3 of the W6's powered off the same amp....and it weights 52lbs

  • Great subwoofer, absolutly amazing, this is hands down the best of the best * That is sold on this site* JL is top notch but a little over priced in my mind, in all of the fights over the mtx 9500 s and the JL W7 the only reason i would go with the mtx is price, But dont forget about companys like Adire Audio,Sound Splinter, Beyond Audio, Kicker,Diamond Audio,Memphis Car Audio, RE Audio overall amp, and enclosure will make it or break it in the long-short run, dont waste money on prebuilt boxes unless there specificly built for a sub, build a box to the specsof the sub, but if ur incapeable/lazy u could spend the money for someone else to do it for you. over all Amazing performance but in my mind performance u pay for.

  • The W7's are the best sounding woofers i have ever heard at very high volume. The W6's sound better in my opinion, but are not near capable of the output of the W7. In the shops i have worked at I have sold JL, ECLIPSE, MEMPHIS, ORION, PG, ALPINE, FOCAL, and others but NO ONE compares to JL AUDIO. Their commitment to excellence with every product from there fuse holders to their 13W7 shows. If you want LOUD and LOW bass, and can handle 145db plus. BUY a 12W7 HO box or build a ported box for a 13W7 and buy a 1000/1. Have your nearest JL AUDIO dealer install your system with proper wires and have them tune your amplifier. I Guarantee you will never want anything else. and for the record... MEMPHIS MOJO M3-VERY LOUD but sounds bad, ALPINE TYPE X- kinda loud and sounds decent, ECLIPSE Titanium- Very LOW and sounds good but not so LOUD, JL AUDIO 13W7 VERY LOUD, VERY LOW, and most important... IT SOUNDS GOOD www.jlaudio check out gotham and fathom, W7's and amps built into towers for your home!

  • I don't think any of these reviews can be taken seriously because well, subs sound different in every car. I'm young and am not that experienced in car audio, but i know that i had a lil 10" kicker in my 03 Tiburon and it pounded off a lil 250rms amp. It sounded almost as nice as my friends 2 Infinity Perfects in a Grand Cherokee. All subs will sound different in different cars, so really leave it to the scientists to tell you what the best sub is. I'd say knowing JL and the judging by the stuff i've heard i'd say this would probably be a hell of a sub.

  • yeah i have got to say that this is the most spectacular thing that is out on the market today!the only flaw this sub got is the price,it cost around or over $1000 if purchase from a aurthorized dealer.but if you want to have a very loud setup this is probably what you want to get. I have 1 sub in a ported box that i built and it can easily beat 2 15 L7.but only if you really know how to play with it.so enjoy this sub cause it got me thru alot of experimenting.

  • I have Two 10 inch jl w7's and 2 500/1. I think for the value you cant do better. I hit 138.1 db in comp with only 1 sub and 1 amp in the back of a 95 blazer. All my friends want one now so for a single 10 inch sub it pounds. s/q

  • First off these are fantastic subwoofers.Very loud and clean when coupled with JL's 1001/1 amplifiers, i had two of these amps. But they come at a steep price, incredibly steep, as i bought them for 1000 apiece locally. In terms of value, that is not worth it to msot people. I eventualyl sold my system and purchased 4 Pioneer Premier ts-w3004 spl subs with 2 rockford fosgate 1001bd amps with an actual power of 1400 watts apeice. They killed my 2 w7 13s with ease. Don't get me wrong, i am not knocking JL, just their prices. Buy 4 of these if you want to spend mad amounts of money, or buy something almost as good for way cheaper. Old setup - Over 4000 New setup - 2310 (and it's better)

  • i have 6 of these each running off of a hifonics 1500b amp in a 2004 escalade and these are quite possibly the loudest subs ive heard with this setup it is a bank breaker but i dont care for as loud as my setup is

  • these are the ones i've always wanted and now i got them and they were definetly worth the wait. if u are out there and want these save up trust me these are the best things u will hear. they sound good in both a ported and sealed box. i previously had the 10w7's and they pounded also.

  • THESE ARE OUTSTANDING. I JUST REPLACED THIS FOR MY 13.5 W6 AND IT IS AWESOME.BEFORE I HIT A 141.4 IN MY 96 TAHOE 4 DOOR WITH A 500/1 TURNED HALF WAY UP. NOW I HIT A 145.2. YOU TELL ME IS IT WORTH IT. P.S. THINK OF ALL THE CABIN SPACE I HAVE TO FILL UP

  • You wont understand how great this sub sounds until you hear one properly installed into a car first hand. If you want to get techincally about how loud subs are... its simple, Cone Area or (SD in the theile-small parameters) x Xmax (make sure to compare 1-way to 1-way not 1-way xmax to full x-max). Judging only by the numbers this sub has more cone area than most 15" subs in its class because of its overall surround (look at the pic), where are the screw holes? The next important thing is, this sub moves over 1.25 inches (1-way). Thats over 2.5 inches of x-max total. Think engines, bigger pistons with longer stroke = more power. Think old school muscle cars with big blocks, BIG Displacement = BIG power! BUT, and here is the very big BUT, (bigger than j-lo's)... none of that matters if it is not TUNED and INSTALLED properly! There is no replacement for displacement. Go BIG or go HOME. JL AUDIO! Beats the SOLO-X 18", Beats Diamond's D9 (TDX), Beats Memphis Mojo M3, Beats Alpine Type-X, Beats Memphis LVS 18", Beats Oz Audio Power, Beats MTX 9500.... Beats every Memphis, Kicker, Boston, Rockford, Audiobahn, Oz, Hifonics, Diamond, Image Dynamics, Alpine, Sony, Kenwood, Clarion, Pioneer, whatever... ONLY 1 sub is rated better.... but you're gonna need $7,500 to buy it and 6,000 watts RMS... just buy 6 of these instead and save $1,500 ;)

  • Simply amazing. Sound quality is some of the best I have ever heard. I'm running one of these monsters with a JL 1000/1 amp and it bumps like crazy. If you are looking for a hard hitting, great sounding sub, look no further. This is the one you want!

  • ive been through so many subs, in my car tryin to find the right one, i then puchased jl audio w7, got it fitted correctly and nearly blew my car windows out, these subs have so much power its unbelievable, i would recommend these subs to any wishing to get recognised, u can feel the vibration when you are about 10 feet away from your car, its unbelievable and it can handle bass.

  • JL w7 is the BEST sub out on the market, no other sub can touch this one! i got 3 w7s with 2 1000/1 mono amps... I cant even explain how awesome these subs are..with the system i got u cant even hear yourself think..a def competition sub! if u can afford a sub like this, its a must buy!!

    11/8/2005

  • first i want to say that people who say that 3 fosgates, 4 mtx, 2 18 inch kicker's etc hit harder than the 13w7 may be right, but remember your comparing two, three or even four other subs to ONE sub!plus the total rms watts of two 10 inch or two 18 inch is obviously larger. just goes to show how the competition has to gang up to try to compete with ONE 13w7. I bought my jl audio 13W7 about a year ago along with the ever so powerful 1000/1 mono amp and it has been lots of funis also a pretty rare combo, not too many people i talked to had a this system or could afford it. i had this system installed in a 94 thunderbird and it hit hard.didnt break any windows but set of alarms all the time and created my seats into massage chairs. it hit hard with no capacitor, which does nothing for this amp+sub combo, stock alternator, no fuse only a circuit breaker and a 4gauge wiring kit. the only upgrade was the yellow top optima that i put into the car. now i got rid of that t-bird and i have an 05 corolla, which i plan on getting an upgraded alt, upgrading the wires from the batt to the alt, the batt to the ground, etc, connecting them with a 2guage wiring kit and a 200anl fuse, and a ported box. this time around it should hit even harder. my friend had a 12w7 with a 500/1 in a 97 yukon and that could be heard from atleast 2 blocks away. any jl audio combo whether its a 10w7 12w7 or 13w7 with their respective jl audio amps are well worth the money. they will blow out the competition.

  • I got 2000'alero olds, i have taken time and money into it i got alpine cd player and JLW7with a 1000/1, amp also 2 300/4amp for my highs with 0 gage wiring,in my front left door i got 2 bulet horn tweters 2 pow, and 2 power aquistics and 8inch rockford spekers w 2 tweaters some setup on right side, for my rears i got 6/9 P 953 330 watts and P30 boss tweaters and 2 bateries and big 500w alternator from sumit racing. I also soundproofed my whole car and my car sounds incredible due to good amps and big W7-13 1/2. my point is this if u install this read the manual first for amp and ur cd player there so much u can do with it, if u not sure go to dealer and let them install it and set it up 4 u and u wont be sory i know cause i am not. ps. be heard

    7/22/2006

  • Well.. it's definitely not the most expensive one, and not THE best one... but still, being ONE subwoofer giving the power that other brands can achieve with 2 or 4 subwoofers, well, it must be something huh? It won't take up the space in the trunk that an enclosure for 3 subwoofers would take, and in quality it is one of the best out there. This is definitely not for a big SPL competition, but more for the daily "joe" enthusiast that wants to impress and rolls on the streets, not on competitions. And hey... that's me...lol

    12/15/2006

  • I think there are subs as good as the JL, but this sub keeps its composure extremely well even when pushed way beyond its rated limits. Bottom line, if you're looking for a Clean and Clear bass monster, this is it. People who opt for rockford kit etc, have pounding systems, but the the bass simply isnt clear (hence there's more if it). When a Rockford fan hears a JL, he hears too much music and not enough BOOM. Rockford heads have small brains! JL All The Way For Power And SQ rolled into one.

  • Previously in my car I had 2 10in Volfenhag subs and an underpowering amp so my volume could never go up past 6 or the bass wouldn't play. A lot of things happened and then I can into some money and bought the JL Audio 13W7 along with the JL Audio 1000/1 amp. I got these installed at Circuit City. It took about 2 1/2 hours for them to install everything. I came back in the store a little early and was playing in the computers section near the car audio. I would hear this amazing bass and was like... If that's my car, I'm going to be needing A LOT of Tylenol because I would be getting headaches. The installers called me and he told me the bass was so crazy my CDs started falling out of their little bins that they were in on the visor...they are in there PRETTY tight. I go to my car, he said he installed 2 L7s and they weren't NEARLY as loud as my 1 W7. This sub is nothing short of amazing. Don't listen to any review that downs this sub because it is awesome. At school, I have the loudest speakers. Everywhere I go I have the loudest speakers. The only downside to this speaker is the HUGE box it has to be in. My car has a tiny trunk and it barely fits. Along with that, it is pricey...but YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR TRUST ME. You will NOT be dissapointed with this subwoofer, I promise you. JL Audio is a God and this subwoofer is perfect.

  • This sub is the best sub on the market. I have two of these with two 1000/1 JL amps in the trunk of my Volvo s40 T5 and lets just say no one has beat me at sound competitions to this day(i have been to7). Its a must buy no questions asked.

    5/19/2007

  • Overall a spectacular woofer, the best I have ever heard or had personally. The price is high, but you pay for this type of quality. I'm running a 13w7 off a JL 1000/1 amplifier and believe me when I tell you, you NEED to give this sub its recommended 1000 watts RMS for the full experience. People who tell you a 500/1 or other similar amplifier will suffice are crazy in my opinion, 500 watts is severely underpowering this woofer. This sub does not distort, even at very high volumes, and holds up admirably even when pushed far beyond its recommended wattage. Anyone who tells you this (or really any subwoofer) will shatter windows is exagerrating (i've heard of very few subwoofers that hit at a high enough decibel level, creating the necessary pressure to shatter glass, the MTX Jackhammer at its peak power handling level of 12,000 watts is possibly the only exception to this I can think of)but don't be surprised if you set off car alarms off with this or have to replace cracked or damaged windows overtime (save yourself the trouble later and just install plexiglass when you get the sub, if you ask me). One drawback, possibly the only one to this subwoofer is the absolutely MASSIVE enclosure it needs to be in for it to sound good, and the enclosure (along with the aforementioned power options) is another thing that MUST be done right to maximize the potential of this woofer. Even the best subwoofers will sound horrible in poorly built boxes. Make sure someone who knows what they're doing builds your box. All in all, this is the best subwoofer i've ever heard with a perfect blend of SQL and SPL and my personal favorite subwoofer on the market. It CAN and WILL outperform every other woofer in its class so long as you give it the power it needs and build the right box, and if you're already going to spend close to $1000 on a subwoofer, I can't see any reason to opt for a cheaper/less powerful amplifier to run it.

    7/18/2007

  • I don't see why people are on this review board saying that this sub requires a large enclosure to sound good or at its best. That is another one the grand features of this sub. It will sound good in almost any enclosure so long as it is within the recommended enclosure size parameters. Sealed or ported. As always, sealed boxes give improved musical sound reproduction and vented boxes give a lower octave reproduction improvement and slight gain in sound pressure level(SPL). The larger enclosure sizes will yield more output though. I have two 13W7s in my 07 Selby GT500 and both are in sealed enclosures that are just a little over 1.6 cubic feet in internal volume after speaker displacement and they sound phenomenal. With only 1.6 cubic feet its a very tiny box for such a heavy sub. That doesn't matter though becuase this sub was meant for such applications where space is very limited but extreme output and fidelity is wanted from a single piece of audio equipment. Just remember one thing. ALWAYS strap a 1000/1 to this thing's ass. Otherwise you will not like what you hear. The 1000/1 is to the W7 as lightning is to thunder. Get this. And for those who badmouth this sub, stop lying to yourselves and everyone else. The price tag is worth it when your buying the closest thing to perfection made in the 21st century.

  • this sub is the king of bass. I have a 13" w7 sub w/ a 1000/1 amp in my lexus rx330 and hits extremely hard. I also have a jl 300/4 amp for my highs.a friend of mine has 4 12" kickers and it still doesn't compare.

  • One 13W7 and 2000 RMS with a slot vented box tuned a@ 32 Hz. More Power the better. You can reach 152-154 DB Levels dependiong on your Vehicle. W7's are One of a Kind. The patents are why. If you have The $.... Do it. But do it right. Anyone can screw up an install and make the best sound bad. Make sure you have a professional install and design it.

  • This sub is amazing. I have only had in for approximately four weeks and I am still trying to find music that will show the subs true power. The price is high, but worth the buy if you want true competition sound. The subs enclosure takes a lot of space, so be aware of this fact if you have a small car with a small trunk. This is a wonderful subwoofer by JL Audio!

  • The W7 are great sounding subs but you can get the same performance from other subs for less! Also, for the same price you can get an RE Audio 12" XXX and it gets louder and the bass is even cleaner then the 13.5 W7!!! JL Audio's paper cone is what holds it back from being cranked up! Cause when you do guess what? BOOM!!! It burns out it's cheap ass $2 paper cone FACT! RE Audio MX and XXX series subs will ass rape a W7 PERIOD!!!!!

  • Hey peeps, this thing is the real deal! Superior sound quality, strict quality, oh yeah, the sound, lets say it is smooth, accurate, and rattling all at once - if that is possible. Put 1100W to this thing and smile because you have something most people would LOVE to have! Price is the obvious downside, the "legendary" JL SQ is the reward. All you bashers out there are either tone-deaf from too many distorted $50 cheapo-depot 1000W specials, or you are merely jealous and tear down what you can't own. I would have to say the MTX 9500's are not as accurate, but about as loud. Hey reviewers, the cones are polypropelene not paper and the mentioned elsewhere RE's are composite. Composite what? Oh yeah, the RE's are about $300 more for comparable size and RE is who? Oh yeah, the company who makes US Amps, enough said. People, it is clear, stick with the quality and reputation you know and you will get what you expect. If you have the $$$, act now!

  • this is by far the best sub ive ever owned. a little pricy but i found a great deal on mine, $500 for the sub and box. i used to have 2 MA Audio HK12X2's and they were rated for 3000 watts a piece. that was a load of bs. my one W7 puts the MA's to shame. people ask me if i have a pair of 15's or something and i jut tell them its a single W7

  • MAN THIS IS ONE MEAN SUB. I trade my two pioneer 12's with my friend for this one sub. And I'm already on my fourth box. I knock the back or the sides off everytime to go against someone. I have one 13w7 in a ported box being pushed by a COMPETITION AMP. I have all of this in a 1993 Honda Accord. It has so much air pressure and beats so hard that it literally knocks down my back seat even when its locked. It worth the price worth the buy.

  • I drive a 2004 Chevy Suburban and I have two these subs in a 1"MDF custom box with 2.35ft3 of airspace net per sub, tuned to 30hz, and a JL 1000/1 hooked up to each one. You could SURF on the waves they create on the sheet metal on my truck! They sound awesome too, as the sound is real tight and punchy with brutal lows. Spent $2600 for both subs and both amps. The only system I've known that I can say has done better for space conservation, power handling, sq, and spl are the Fi audio BTL 12" subs that i have in my 06 Yukon XL. I got em configured for over 1" of xmax and I run a clean 2500rms to each sub from a Hifonics XX-Goliath. These are in a 2.6ft3 box tuned to 33hz. Paid $2700 for the amp and subs. My Fi's were WAY more expensive in the end. I put a $2000 dollar hole in my wallet before I could use them with the Goliath. With an average "MUSIC" DC draw of 195 amps, a 250 amp alternator with three Stinger batteries and four 10 farad caps crept their way into the mix. So over all I paid over $4700 for it all. Didn't have to do all that for the W7s and the difference is NOT all that big. Just put it like this, In a way the bang for the buck is there even with the so called "high pricing" on the W7. Especially if you're in the market for a premium, true high-end sub.

  • Surely an awesome driver for sure, but more could be had for the money. JL's marketing is always going to trump other no name companies and this subwoofer will always remain under popular opinion among the masses as the "ultimate" subwoofer. If you have excess money and don't mind the price, by all means buy these subwoofers. Otherwise, invest some time and research with your install and you can match this subwoofer's SQ/SPL quite easily with other brands for much less money. Don't let the super inflated "reviews" sway you otherwise.

If you have free money to throw around go ahead and buy them for the "prestige" factor otherwise save your money and get a better deck and amp and an XXV sub from hifonics they have stomped JL in competition lanes everytime

  • I give this sub a 9 because if there is anything time has taught us is that there is ALWAYS room for improvement. It sounds great at peak power levels with awesome output and fedelity, nuff said. However, my 12" RE Audio XXX series subwoofer definately outperforms it. XMAX: JL13W7-31.75mm/My REXXX-54mm. Recommended Power (RMS): JL13W7-1000w/REXXX-2000w. Typical Internet Price: JL13W7-$660/REXXX-$700. For the extra $40, I think my XXX is the obvious choice. PS: It IS louder and it DOES sound cleaner than this W7 and its only a 12".

I WAS CRACKING UP LAUGHING. I HAVE A 1000.1 JL SUB AMP PUSHING IT BUT MY BUDDY THAT WORKS AT MOBILE 1 CAR AUDIO SAYS I NEED TO GET A BIGGER AMP TO PUSH IT.SO I CANT WAIT TILL I GET SOME MORE MONEY TO GET A MORE POWERFUL AMP SO I CAN REALLY GET ALL THE WATTS OUT MY W7.TRUST ME JL W7 IS THE WAY TO GO

  • jl audio has always been the bench mark standard in car audio, they do make a quality product and were always considered the competition.the w7 was a huge trend setter in leap and bounds in subwoofer technology.but the w7 technology is over 10 years old, they have failed in trying to improve the w7.jl thinks there perfect the way they are and so does the audio consumer. I go to soundoff shows all the time and guys with w7,s get mad when they fall behind in the lanes, they think they have the best sub money can buy. Ill tell u what try out a dc sound lab 12 inch level 5 subwoofer, there all hand made in the u.s.a. and i absolutely guarantee it will out perform a w7 like it was day and night.matter of fact i would put my single 15 inch dc sound lab subwoofer against 3 jl 13 w7s any day and still spank them in the lanes.

  • I currently have a 13w7 powered by 1000/1 Jl amp. Amazin is all that i can say. What a lot of you guys fail to realize is that this sub isn't meant to be put in competition. I read a lot of comments about how you guys have so many other subs that outperform, or project louder. But, can they really out-perform as far as quality? And the answer more than likely is no. This sub is truly designed for the listeners ear. It hits notes on a scale, that most subs which they could sit and watch play. So, unless you really know care audio, don't embarass your weak sounding subs with your comments.

  • I picked up one of these brand new in the Prowedge box with a 1000/1 for 600 one day. Never really wanted one but that for money I couldn't pass it up. This is JL"s SPL sub, simply put. I have two 12w6v2s and they are the audiophile sub. The 13w7 sounds good and will pound but there is no real sure way to get the distortion out of it all the way with any amp or headunit. Another downfall about such a big speaker is after 32hz there is no output. They trick you with their free air resonance on the site stating 22 or 25 or something like that. Truth is in a sealed or ported below 32hz your not getttin much out put. I love this sub and the way it beats and JL's quality is unmatched no doubt. All their equipment seems to last forever even in some abusive relationships. But for me I know all day give me my 2 12w6v's. And I'm a honest person and 85 percent of the time these pound louder than the 13, only on the lows does the 13 get louder. I'm reselling the 13 soon and keeping the 1000/1 for the 12's. I was running them off an ORion Xtr 2250 the beast for any of you who know what I'm tallking about. At about 3/8 gain and the bass boost off. Gotta love JL but yes the 13w7 can be surpassed and for less money. It really needs 2000watts though I think. The 1000/1 is just like babyin the sub. The jl is a good value because I bet it lasts for close to ten years with everyday enjoyment as long as your not stupid about how you play it. keep the distortion to a minimun and no doubt its good for a really long time.

  • What people have to consider is how long are ur subs going to last. These subs last forever. It will still sound the same down the road like it did from day one. I just purchased this and the jl 1000/1 for 600 to. I heard it before i bought it and i couldnt pass up on the price. The guy lives in sugar land and is putting two solo x in his car with a T 3000. and to slamin wang from los angelas i got to hear this. It looks like it will sound tight.

  • hyped up, great sound quality but much better can be had for much less money. Its all in the enclosure as to what a speaker will do, you can put a cheapo piece of crap in a great enclosure and it will sound decent. JL is a good brand with good products but the hype and "legend" means nothing this is a company used the exorbitantly wealthy, or those who recognize a popular name and buy for that reason alone. So yes jl audio does make a good reliable product but why soend the extreme amounts of money when you can by other products of the same or better quality for less money and get the same performance.

  • i love when people say you can get "better" products for cheaper and what not. they are just retarded. JL makes products STRICTLY for SQ. this is the reasoning for the 3 ohm voice coils. and the 13.5" over a 15"...because it sounds better with the design they use!! and its not ALL in the enclosure, the amp means a huge deal. since JL also makes the best amps on the market as well with the slash and HD series, you should def use one of their amps to run a W7. ive heard 2 12w6v2's running off a 1000/1 and it hit 149.5db AND IT WAS STILL CLEAN!! yes you can get more spl from other brands, but they dont sound anywhere near as clean ie. audiobahn, which sounds like complete $h!t at high volumes, thats why they are so cheap. and 1 JL watt is equal to 2 watts of other brands. i think the only thing i have ever heard that was near in sound QUALITY was xtant, which no longer exists. there are companies that still cant compete with the original 20 year old w6's. JL is definately AHEAD OF THE CURVE

  • I'm seriously laughing at the last review this sub got on here. He needs to get off the mainstream subwoofer BS. The TC Sounds LMS Ultra 5400 has proven time and time again, that even with an 18", you can get the best sound quality on the planet. The JLW7 is $635 here on OCS, which is not bad all. However, the LMS Ultra is only $800-$900 from an authorized dealer and more capable than this subwoofer. I love how people don't look past the W7 once they hear one or hear the hype about it. The LMS Ultra 5400 is one of the most powerful SQ subs in existence and would demolish any W7 on its worst day in sound quality and output capability. Total harmonic distortion @2000W-rms between 20-100 Hz. is only 0.4-0.7% at 110db and as output level increases, the distortion rises less than any other woofer ever tested on the planet. No JL subwoofer can clain those numbers or anything close to it, yet they won't stop with the "JL audio is best" song. Car Audio Noobs.

  • Got mine for 650 in north San Antonio, the sub bumps but definitely needs more than 1000 watts to shine, if you have the money for it i would suggest can get 2 w6 12 or 13.5 and can power them with less watts and will bang harder then the 13.5 w7 and as for spl with one 13.5w7 you can only hit around 140db and with 2 12w6 you can hit around 150db, with 13.5w6's mid 150's, for the Scott Phelps post on here with the 6 13.5's, Ive seen my friend with 3 of these subs hit 166db, you need a better encloser and try 4 subs, you'll put up better numbers, people always think more subs= more dbs but nope.

  • I used to compete back in the 90's with a Phoenix gold M100 and M50 on 3 12w6'sv1 and got out of being a bass head when I had kids but now that my kid is older and I have plenty of money I decided to build a show car and use a all JL system. I have 2 13w7's 2 HD1200/1's and JL C5 61/2's components up front and JL 6x9's for rear fill and these things sound superb. Yes I have had harder hitting ground pounders but they required bays of battery's and high output Alts where my JL system is being run with just a 240 mech man alt and one 1000watt capable battery in the trunk and I have never had the first problem no shit offs no nothing. And what you pay for with JL is technology they actually do RAndD and all these build houses are still using 20 year old boards and sub soft parts and just beefing them up and sticking a new name on them. JL actually makes a different design for every size sub and series so the 10w7 is different then the 13w7. If you want a one note ground ponder and a 1000lbs of battery's these are not for you but if you want quality superb sound and efficiently then get one or two of these and enjoy the best bass you will ever hear. Don't get me wrong they can get loud just not to the level of DD,DC,soundqubed, kicker, or any other spl monster.

  • Can anyone tell me which would hit harder and sound better. I have a Nissian Altima, I currently have 2 10w6 running off MRX- M110 Alpine Amp. I want more bass but am unsure which one to get.. 2- 12W7.... or 1- 13W7 Everything I read just gives me mixed reviews so I have no idea what would sound better and give off the most bass. I cant spend more then $1,000, if I could trust me I would.. :)
