  • This unit (premier960mp) replaced the Pioneer deh-p7400mp I bought from SoundDomain a year and a half ago. The reason I upgraded was the Auto-EQ and Auto Time Alignment features. I have had the deck installed for about 10 days. I consider myself very knowledgeable in car audio. One reason to choose the Premier model over the Pioneer model is the high-volt preouts at 6.5 over the 4v preouts in the Pioneer series. Equals a stronger, cleaner audio signal being fed to amplifiers. The other, and in my opinion, the most important feature is the ability to operate this unit in PRO-Mode. Using this mode allows you to independently control each driver pair in a 3 speaker front soundstage! The part I have benefited the most from was the ability to use a band pass filter my mid-basses. You can graphically set your crossover points and slopes from an on screen graph. In addition you can adjust the phase of each individual pair of drivers to achieve the best sound. Using this feature in conjunction with the Time Alignment creates a very respectable soundstage quickly. The time Alignment can be done automatically (using the supplied microphone) or you can set it manually for each single driver from 1 to 160 inches. 13 band equalizer. Oh brother! If you cannot get good sound with a 13 band EQ??Another surprise feature was the 8 attenuation levels for each preset EQ curve. Vocal, Natural, etc. Example: You select the Vocal EQ curve. You like it but it sounds tweaked hard. You can then attenuate that eq curve from zero to +4 or -4 right there on the same screen. The MP3/WMA speed is incredibly fast. It's as though they were trying to compensate for the slow load times of the first-gen mp3 heads. I love that you can graphically scroll-search for another song while listening to the current track. The feature list is substantial. These are just a couple that impresses me. I believe the best head units made today are Pioneer and Alpine. I choose Pioneer because Alpine does not offer a deck with these features and Pioneer?s look has always remained clean and uncluttered. A more classic look, which fits my car.

  • This is my first aftermarket headunit, and I don't think I would go with any else besides Pioneer. To start, this headunit has great video display and it's cool that you can customize and make your own videos to put on for display. The whole flip down thing is cool because very few headunits have this feature, and it's pretty much the only thing that makes it different from the DEH-P860MP. The interface is very user friendly. It has separate buttons for all the differnt menus that it has. The sound enhancement is amazing also. It really helped my factory speakers put out better quality with a little bit more volume. I'm in the process of replacing my factory speakers right now, so hopefully it'll sound even better. Like a lot of things Pioneer, this will put a dent in your wallet so that's why I gave it a 9 for money value. This headunit is very much worth every penny. You can pretty much adjust any part of what comes out of your speakers with this thing. However, the time on the part that flips down is hard to read during the day in the sun. So, if you're caught between the 860 and the 960, the only differences are: flip down thing, separate buttons for the menus, different videos and displays come with it, and any other differences in physical appearence. I highly recommend this product to any audio enthusiast.

  • This is a very cool deck. With lots of features. The only complain I have about it, is the faceplate material, Plastic? Why not Stainless or Aluminum?
