  • this thing is a monster. drop it in a ported box, give her the power she needs and hold on. this thing pounds

  • When I first dropped this thing in a ported box in my 2003 single cab Sierra Pickup, it played like a dream - but then it fried the day I got it. The dealer gave me a new one and in 2 days it was also fried. The 3rd one they gave me lasted 2 months. It was well broken in, but god forbid I should actually play music with bass on it. I popped in Lil' John for the first time in my truck and the sub died in 2 minutes. And I'm not usin a pos amp, it's a Memphis 1000D. And I'm only running it at 600 watts rms because I have the dual 4 ohm woofer. In my opinion, there are better woofers out there. I know plenty of people who play their music much more aggresively, and they havn't messed up their subs. If you can't play a sub long and hard, what's the point in getting it? I reccomend something else like the MTX thunder 9500 series.

  • This is the best sub I have ever had. Words can express the quality, clearty and joy you will have if you'll get it. Justin from VA next time go to a professional installer, I think you didn't hook it right also this is the 2004 model so you may had an older model.

  • This is a pretty good sub. my kicker subs have never blown on me and i have pushed mine to the limits within reason. If the previous guys sub keeps blowin it might be that your ported box size is wrong or you amp is messed up!!!

  • I have been running kicker L7's for 2 years now. they are beasts. i was running the same amp that justin was running and the only reason i kept blowin them was cuz the gain was up to high. put a new amp on them and they held up for 2 competition seasons. i now have 2 2004 and run them on a 2500 watt amp. no problems

  • hey justin, anybody has bought solo's knows they are very stiff when the come from the factory. you have to give them two weeks at half amp to let the break in. after that no limits on these baby's. next time let real kicker installer like me hook your stuff up. otherwise you'll keep jacking stuff up.

  • These speakers kick and punch harder than anything out there. If you're looking for deep bass, go JL Audio, but if you listen to rock/metal, go for the hardest hit and punch in the world, these are the bomb! Never been happier.

  • THis is the best sub i have use in a long time. I have use the Kicker L5 and i lovethose but wanted some more power. I got the L7 and it hit hard in a ported box. I now have 3 L7 in my Sierra on a JL 500/1 and it hit hard . Going to put them on DB ratting soon to see how much DB i have.

  • Why don't people power subs correctly!? Are you asking to blow them? If a sub is rated for 750 watts RMS then give them 750 watts RMS! Some of you are underpowering the crap out of the sub. Think of the sub as a motor in a truck. Would you drop a 2.0L in a full size truck? Why not? Cause the motor would be strained like crazy! Why do that to your subs? Sure it'll last for a little while, but when it blows up is it the subs fault or yours? Sure, blame it on these crappy subs. These subs are capable of so much more than you're allowing them to do.

  • i live in a very small town and people have not heard of very many subs worth a crap but after i got 2 12" L7S EVERYBODY in town wants to buy them. they are the hardest hitting 12" subs i have ever heard. they rattle EVERYTHING in my 2005 single cab chevy

  • Before my two new 12" L7's in a sealed enclosure, I had one 12" Audiobahn High Excursion in a slot-ported enclosure. As expected these are much better all-around than the single Audiobahn. At first, I got these subs and they took some adjusting of my headunit (Pioneer Premier DE960MP) to get them set right. After about a week and a half of breaking in, these two things shake my car places I never knew could shake. The L7's of course look elite with the blue and silver design and everything else. The sound quality is better and more clear due to the sealed enclosure, and i'm very happy with that because the volume of the bass is still there let me tell ya. I gave the $$$ value a 9 simply because these are $250+ each no matter where you buy them, so they aren't just subs that you have enough money in your pocket to go out and buy. They take a little saving in most cases. So, overall they earned a 10. I'm currently trying to find all the new rattles my car is putting out, but other than that, there is no distortion at all, even at the sound levels of my choosing. In a sealed enclosure, these L7's will give you very nice quality and each note will be well distinguished from the next, and sound great with all types of music. I'm very please with my L7's and you'd be making a good investment if you choose to purchase a couple of 'em. I'm also looking into getting the KS series 6"x9", 4"x6", and tweeters, and eventually the 1200.1. Kicker products are a must for any audio enthusiast.

  • yeah this things are cool at first and i thought i had the best system in my town with 2 of them in a ported enclosure @2.75cu.ft each and runnin a sx1250.1 amp to them putting out 1480 watts @ 1ohm this amp is so cool i luv it,but anyways i had 0 gauge power wires and 1 5farad cap in my 1995 integra 2dr for maximum power outputs and my friends cousin who has a 96 civic also 2dr took me out with 1 15" MTX 9500 series sub powered with a mtx 1501d rated @1670 with 4 gauge wires and no cap and that mite be a 190watt difference but the gain in his amp was turned down so that his lights wouldnt dim that much and it didnt sound like a 200 watt difference but like a 500watt so yeah i still like kicker specialy the amps but i was dissapointed big time!

  • blew my back window out in my mustang with two of these run at 720 watts each. for those who are blowing these subs out you should read the manuale they need 2-3 weeks of good play at low volume to break them in. after that you can push them beyond your cd players limit.

  • twich From CA, their are so many factors that could be why his mtx out sounded your massive kicker setup. when it comes to competing, its 80% install, 20% equipment. i have 2 of the 2002/2003 models of these 12" l7s (the silver/black versions) in a sealed box with 1 cu ft to each sub. the SQ is great and the SPL is awesome. im running only 1000watts to 2 of these subs and people hear me a block down still. im a fan of kicker and will contunie to buy their subs.

  • I bought 2 of these, i had one of these installed in my 350z with custom encloser(because i didnt have anymore sapce for second one of course), i was using alpine mrd-m1005 to power it, i also had a 1 farad cap. This thing was worst sub ever, lame sound, no base whatsoever. DOnt know what was wrong with it. Then hooked it up to JL audio 500/5 it was same thing. well i blew one once i started listening and second one after one week(with alpine amp not JL). Will never buy these or kicker subs ever:))))

I've had them for over a year now...still sound as good as first day outta the box...as straight up for everyone else...ppl will hear you coming blocks away with these subs.. question...2 of these 12's sound like someone else on 2 circle 15's... If you want a proven winner and sub...look no more...money well spent if you ask me...

  • I have had my 2-12 L7's for three days now.Worth every penny. All I have is a Power Acoustik OV1600 Gothic series pushing them and I am suprised the back glass in my SUV hasn't busted out yet. I can only imagine the sound when I get the JL1000.1 pushing them. If you like your teeth to rattle and you hate your ear drum, purchase the L7's you won't be dissapointed. Just make sure you have a good amp.Or you will be wasting your money.

  • This has to be the best sub I've used or heard. Yes, I've heard W7's, but I still like the sound from these better than I did from the JL. In a ported (large) enclosure, this thing is absolutely taking everything the Rockford Fosgate Power T8002 that's powering it dishes out. Just this single sub playing DJ Rectangle's Big Adventure will FLEX the roof of my Honda Ridgeline pickup easily a half inch when the bass slams (OMG - watch the moonroof!). It extends super low (albeit I did NOT follow Kicker's recommended design - the box is 2.64 ft3 and tuned to 38.6 Hz due to a construction mistake on my part). I haven't plotted what it would do if tuned lower, but on near-subsonic test tones, it sounds and looks (XMax) healthy to me, so I'm not going to dork with it. With the T8002 infrasonic filter on, it wouldn't matter anyway, 'cause the amp's gonna drop it. I'd recommend a clean 800 w per L7 12 MINIMUM... I know what it's rated for, but 1000 w RMS would prolly be closer to ideal for this sub.

  • 2 in my VW R32, best sound ever. Kicker 1200.1 (awesome price on this site) useing a Pioneer DEH-P7700MP deck and stock VW speakers ( very very hard to replace and they sound fine the way they are) the one this i recomend is do some research on box size. the right box is key. every problem i have heard about L7's are solved with the propper box match.

  • i have had tons of subs. i build spl systems all the time in my town for kids here. what i got in my car is 2 12 l7 kicker's in a 7 cube box port'd with 1 phoenix gold xenon 1200.1 pushing them and 2 deep cell batts and 120 amp alt for it. i hit 148 db all the time. these subs well last if you give them power clean power. oh yeah thats in a 4 door 90 civic.

  • i have 2 of these in a sealed box in my jeep grand cherokee running off a kicker kx 1200.1 (which actually pushes 1490 rms) and they hit so hard my speedometer bounces up from 0mph to 5mph when im at a dead stop... some people say these arent good for rap but thats all i listen too and i couldnt be happier with the way they sound

    4/13/2006

  • i got two of these L7s in a sealed box (yes i kno wrong box) hooked up to a Power Acoustik 1600 2 chan amp (740 bridged rms) they were really loud in a 05 Sentra with a Pioneer P7700MP decc. Reasons for usin that amp was to break them in with out alot of power... Then later upgraded to a Hifonics BXi 1600 watt rms mono blocc amp (800 rms to each sub)... first night listenin to them after i installed it, i got a nose bleed. hittin 139.23 dbs in sealed box... I hit harder than all the drug dealers that got 4 to 6 15s in their Crown Vics or Tahoe's... Bouts to get a Pro box with Kicker Specs for 2 L7s... Ive heard W7s, those are nice, but that price ($960 retail) can get u 2 L7s (399.99 retial)and sound better than 3 or 4 W7s put together...

  • This subs are amazing. I have them in my Dub edition volkswagen jetta and man do they pound. I'm running them with a Hifonics Brutus 1600 Watts Mono amp and thats all i need. I already messed up my alternator and battery and looking to get a cell battery to fix this problem. This subs r worth every penny...
