  • I had one of these before and I had a mtx 421d amp pushing it, it handles perfect I think I got a good three inches of cone exursion out of it. I would recomend these to anyone!

  • This sub is the perfect "quality sub" in my opinion. The SPL is nothing outrageous and the driver used in this sub, is very advanced. If you want an extremely clean subwoofer with somewhat capabilities of loudness, I recommend this sub over any infinity,JL,kicker, etc. VERY good price. I have 1 12 and it is PERFECT in my maxima.(alpine 400 watt mono amp).

  • Very good sounding speakers I have two of them in my monte carlo and they sure sound better then my old Kicker Comp VR 15's (single voice coils) from back in 99-2000.

  • These subs handle insane amounts of Cont Wattage. Get yourself a high-quality amplifier with a LPF and you'll FEEL every kick drum hit and all those synth'd notes, so will the guy in the car two lanes over. An amazingly clear and loud sub.

  • I have 3 of these, in my Tahoe, being pushed by the T10001BD Rockford, which rms on the birthsheet says, puts out a little over 1500 watts @ 1 ohm and the bass hits hard.

  • I have one 12 inch R-12 in a Ported Box and as soon as you crank it up the bass just keeps coming with no distortion,I recommend this speaker over Mtx,Sony, etc

  • An amazing sub, I have two in the back of my matrix, and it kicks the Sh!t out of the tin roof. Hits all the notes very well, especially very low. Easy to follow instruction manual with idividual applications, so no matter what your setup, you can follow the instructions. Rubber layer seal helps keep the air from escaping the enclosure unlike some other subs I've had where i needed to buy rubber strips. Overall the best sub i've owned, and i wont upgrade again for a while.

  • I have 2 of these on the back seat of my 99" F150 with an audiobahn A8002T, 1600 watt amp that pushes them good. I can definetally tell they are starting to be broken in, my sound quality improves every time i use them, they hit the low notes especially well. The first time i turned them on, the change in my cup holder literally bounced out.

  • Let me start by saying I hated Alpine subs, the hit just wasn't there. Ihurd the new 10"sub at a local audio shop was impressed but 12's are were I live so the the tens merly peaked intrest. I went to Relm of Excusion and saw the 12 and 15 perform and this made up my mind to upgrade. I went from 3-12" Groundzero Rodioactives to one Alpine TypeR 12d2 in 1.75 cubic ft. ported box in my oppinion the best for spl and sound quality. HOLY Shiznittt! Hits harder than all 3 did, more accurate, hits deeper alittle louder but I just hooked it up and changed nothing gains and bass boost still at 1/2 on my Autotek MX2000(a beast of an amp-1500@1 ohm) so I'm just breaking it in. So I'm putting 750-800w. to it now soon to be 1200w. in 96 Nissan Maxima Bangin 4SHO! It's a true 12 U will LUV it.

  • Alpine makes the best car audio equipment by far. I have the 12" Alpine TypeR 12d2 in a slot ported box powered by an alpine650 amplifier. I also have alpine head unit and type S speakers all around, and damn does it sound good, I just got it installed so it is only getting broken in and is less than half power, and it is lowder and better sound quality that most of my friends that are turned all the way up. I can't wait until it is broken in and I can run it at full power. I promise you won't be dissapointed in the quaility and overall features that Alpine offers, and for a great price. I will never buy anything other than Alpine.

  • I've got two of the these bad boys in a ported box in teh back of my buick and they bump. I used to have three MA Audio 10G6's and these kick the crap outta them by far. The sound is incredibly clear and this is the best bass i've ever had in my car. I mixed these beautiful sounding lows with awesome mids and highs from all rockford fosgate power series speakers and everyone is amazed with the sound that comes form my car. I would suggest these subs to anyone that asked me about them any day of the week.

  • I have one sub hooked to a KICKER ZX450.2 in the back of my TOYOTA Camry. I run it in mono mode. This ALPINE sub will work with any application. When you really want bass, you just crank up that bass-boost and feel the insides of your ears vibrate to music. But,this sub also produces excellent bass at normal volume levels, as I do most of the time. This sub will take whatever you can dish out. If you need something smaller go with 10" want something bigger go with the 15". Whatever you, just make sure you but an ALPINE Type-R!

  • WOW!!! i must first start off by saying these subs rock, they are clean and very loud, i had jus put them in recently and havent had the chance to really crank up the db boost and let them really boom but for the minimal amount of power i have on right now they beat out my other 12 inch subs and i have a headache.... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.... plz buy here and save you $110... $225 at best buy just aint worth it

I've redone the whole system now and this sub hits hard and for this price you can't beat it my ear drums were vibrating from the bass. • I just purchased 2 of these babies to replace 2 spl 12's from soundstream. These alpines slam better than i expected, and i am only driving them at 350 watts x2 at 2 0hms IN A SEALED ENCLOSURE,WITH A REF AMP FROM SOUNDSTREAM,WAIT TIL I UPGRADE TO A BIGGER AMP.VERY IMPRESSED.

  • I have 2 of these in a dual slot ported box with a Visonik 1000 watt amp @2ohms. They absolutely SLAM. I had them in a sealed box and it was good, then I upgraded to the ported and it makes a HUGE difference. They're ridiculous. I would choose these over anything to be honest. It's he perfect amount of bass and for $135 each it can't be beat. Shops around here sell them $220. PICK THESE UP!

  • I have 2 of these powered by an alpine mrp-m850 amp. they are runnnin at 400 rms each. They sound great. Hit hard. And look good too. Overall great speaker. Worth the money, especially on this site.

  • I deal a lot in car stereo equipment and I have to say I love these subs. I have messed with this stuff for about 15 years now and I have to say I'm now a fan of alpine subs. in my opinion the Type R 12 is great it is loud and proud and very clear. I had 1 in a ported oversized box with a crossfire 600d running at 1 ohm in my 95 jeep grand cherokee. I took it out and i'm currently running to Fosgate 15 inch T1's with a directed 1500. its not the same. I'm about to buy another Type R 12 and a Hifonica Brutus. I cant stop buying these things. right now I have the t1 15's, 2 type R 10's and the one type R 12. I will say this if you're just wanting extreme hard hitting bass for rap, go with the type X's. but if you want powerful bass and clean sound for all types of music go with the type r's and dont get any bigger than 12 inch subs. they pick up more and you can hear all the bass notes more clearly

  • for the money this sub is unreal. i have 1 in a custom made ported box and its being powered by a hifonics amp running about 700rms. trust me its loud, esp for 135$ or whatever it is. its loud and clean. deff make any owner happy

  • I have 2 of these subs in my 200 ford focus, in an oversided ported box set for spl. ive hit 148.7 db thats loud if your a noobie competitor but not any where close to an mtx. but for the price it perfect for a first time competitor. i reccoment this sub to anyone and for any set up spl or sq.

    9/7/2007

  • I bought 2 of these and they beat like no other. Im running them 1200 watts at 1 ohm with a Hifonics 1206 D amp. I would recommend these speakers for the price and the sound quality...

    9/17/2007

  • for this sub as its size and class and price, i give it an overall 10. i had two 12" type s's ran by the v-power 650 and they were cool. not loud enough for my taste of loudness but they performed well. so i upgraded to the type r's. i am pushing them with the same 650 amp with a regular cube custom box fit to the speakers specs in a 07 cobalt and i can tell they hit harder and the bass is cleaner with the lows as being a more bigger and powerful sub. i am purchasing the pdx 1.100 in a week or so. if anybody is running these subs with anything less then the pdx 1.100 they cannot give you a full review because the vpower mrp850 is still not enough power for the 12" type r's 500 rms power.even with the 650 a guy came outside and said his pictures were rattling inside his house . I will write another review soon as i receive my pdx as i cant give you a full review because i have not powered these subs all the way

  • I've got 2 of these in my '96 Dodge Ram standard cab in a 1.4-cu.foot sealed 2 chamber encloser(between the seats)and run them at 2-ohms using a Alpine MRD-M500 bass amp.must people think I've got a wall of subs then they see what I'm using and are floored. • Well to start off i have a cobalt which has a small trunk opening which makes hard to get a nice size box in there... had some kicker cvr which sounded like crap in my small sealed box so did some reseach and these only need 0.7 cu/ft so gave it a them a try man i had turn my bass down by half and the still have cleaner harder hiting bass.... and compared to bestbuys $240 a sub this is a fantasic value half the price almost.......... pushing two of these with a planet audio tt1500 mono block amp which is a beast to

  • I had two older type r's in my taurus, and I wanted to upgrade to two of these. I kept the same box, amp, and wiring kit, and just replaced the subs. What a difference these subs make. Long and clean sound. I am only pushing it at 500 rms, and these babies pound. I would def. buy if your looking for a sub that could take a beating and still want more. Def. better off than the JL Audio W3V3's.

  • I love it. Replaced MTX 7000 12in in vented MTX Thunder box, MTX sounded great but the Alpine outshines it in the MTX enclosure. More rubber band effect, louder, and deeper. Have it hooked to MTX 6500D.

  • Hits hard when you want it too, pounds clean when you want it to. Amazing sub. I can listen to any kind of music and it sounds perfect. I highly recommend this to anyone. I powered it with a TMA 500.1 Amp, which compliments it perfectly.

  • Im pushin 4 of these subs in the backseat of my 01 cadillac Deville by 2 MRV F900 amps and all I can say is holy crap I can't believe I still have my hearing.the type r's are the best bang for your buck they hit every note and are clear. im getting 2 more this week and ill prolly blow out every window in the car. my cd player goes up to 40 but I can't turn it up past 30 cause the subs are just that loud. definitely recommend these these subs to anyone looking for great sound quality and an awsome value, you can't go wrong

  • I recently threw two of these bad boys in the trunk of my 03 honda accord, totally worth every penny! Powered by two Alpine mrp m500's and incased in a slot port box, these things hit ridiculously hard and handle all frequencies extremely well. I was really impressed and can't wait until their broken in, had them for about 3 days and satisfied....great sound quality, overall a product i would recommend to a friend any day! :)

  • I have one of this subwoofers in a ported box in my 97 blazer with 8 gage speaker wires connected to my 1200 watt rockford foscated punch amp, wired with a 6 gage. The only thing that i could tell you is that i'm bumbing it so hard that people go outside of their houses to look whats going on. then with the bass at -12. it bunbs so hard that i compete with a friend that has a w7 12". i was bunbing as loud as him and he had a wire of 1 gage. then i set off some lady's car alarm at the bank too.

    Edgar
    4/30/2009

  • I have two of these bad boys. i have them hooked up to a rockford fosgate 1500 watt amp. These pound harder than anything i have heard. i get so many complaments on these woofers. I would recomend these subwoofers to anyone looking for some serious bass that actually sound good and not distorted.

    Eric
    5/13/2009

  • I bought this bad boy becuase I have a 1999 suzuki grand vitara, and I was still running totally stock. So i got the alpine cda-9886 and it gave a huge boost to my stock speakers, but I still needed BASS!! so I got this alpine swr-122d with the sealed groundshaker box and this baby hits hard!! I got it set up with a rockford fosgate p6002 bridged running @ 600w rms X1. Verry verry happy, u can feel me coming.

    Ramon
    6/1/2009

  • what can't I say about these I boght a pair here 3/07 thats right 27 months ago and I got pulled over today! they have just did work for over two years solid!!! They survived a leaky trunk a car crash (hit in the trunk car totalled). And multiple amps, they beat hard and deep and every note sounds fantastic. And the low notes drop!!! For the price they are the **** period!!!!

    Weezie
    6/1/2009

  • be sure to put 500RMS to this sub, and a cap. I match/kill 2 12" JL W0 subwoofers, and some 2 12" pioneer subwoofers... i did the pro slot ported box from ground shaker off this site and works WELL! pretty overkill for me because i just wanted some bass not a rolling vibrator for the ladies :)

    6/29/2009

  • I have an '01 2door blazer and a Kicker 750.1. was pushing 2 Premier 1207's and my amp ripped threw 3 of them after about a year. Instead of adding more pioneer i figured i'd give alpine a shot since I have everything else alpine. So far the pioneer seem to hit slightly harder but im just breaking these in. Sound Quality wise... Alpine dominate. This is day one.. so far so good

    Trae
    7/10/2009

    9/20/2009

  • I just bought two of these from ocs. I've had a lot of other name brands, but when it comes to sound quality, alpine is the best. Not to mention these things rattle the shit out of my car with only 400 watts. Kicker zx750.1 coming soon.

    10/9/2009

  • Have had these subs since 2006 replaced a pair of cvr's after less than a year of use. These subs still hit hard and after two years of use and three vehicles the still cracked the windshield in my new car.

  • I just bought this dual 2ohm 12" type with a smaller sealed box and have it hooked it to one channel, old rockford amp only giving it around 200-240 watts. I was very shocked on how good it sounded and how loud it was, even with it being very unpowered with a crappy, small sealed box. I can't wait to change to a ported box hooked up to an Alpine mrp-m850 amp @ 4ohm 500 watts x 1 ch. I will give another review after I change those things.

    1/23/2010

    9/17/2010

  • This sub is great for someone wanting awesome clean and hard bass for quite cheap. I have this dual 2 ohm sub in my Supra, in a too small, sealed box, and only 400 watts. Still shakes the house when I'm a block away.

  • ive had 4 of these 12s and i payed 109.oo a piece online brand new there a good sub but the voice coils dont hold up in a sealed box running 3000rms

    bryan atkins
    10/14/2010

  • Iv seen a lot of type r's in my day, and almost everyone iv seen the voice coil takes a shit on them 10's and 12's. There damn loud but don't have the greatest sound. If your looking for a good quilty alpine subwoofer go with the type x.

    11/15/2010

  • These are 500 watt continuous. That means you can't run more than that for more than a few minutes. RMS is the real leave on volume. That means you run them short of that or get an X woofer. Yeah the coils got fried at 1000+ RMS. Get the right speaker for the volume you are gonna use it for folks. This one would run well with 600 RMS amp NOT 1200. Get the right RMS setup for your volume needs and you won't blow the speakers.
