There O.K. they need an amp to get them loud enough for when you are ride'in. The boat is open and they have a hard time getting loud enough to over come the wind noise.
Very good sound for the money. Good construction. Clear at all frequencies and generally pleasing sound, but these are not "audiophile quality". Better than my Sony's at a comparable price. I used them since 2005 in the open cockpit so they have been exposed to the New England weather all year round and no problems. I don't play them very loud so that might help.
I have a pair of these for my truck, put them behind my grille on front so when I cruise people can hear my music through the outside...
I have had 4 of these speakers on my boat since 2004. The sound quality is crisp at the highs and the bass is great too. I may be abusing the pair mounted at the transom as I wash the boat after ocean fishing with soap and bleach solution. As a result I have to change that pair every 2 years. They are so good that I think its worth it. I am also going to replace my different brand broken speakers on my 20 ft boat in Florida with Clarions too. I get a lot complements on the sound quality of these speakers. And DAMN-these guys' prices are good. I am their customer now!!
