Product Reviews For Boss Audio D1200M

  • I recently purchased a MA1200XL because a friend has one and it's crazy loud. So I've been looking for an amp to go with it. What attracted me to the D1200M was the price,I mean a class D for this kind of money! I wired my sub parallel and ended up with a 1.5 ohm load.So I e-mailed Boss Audio and asked them if this was normal. They replied that this was normal for a dual voice coil sub and that it not only wouldn't hurt the amp but that the amp would produce 610 watts rms at 1.5 ohms. Well that sold me right there, that was just the right wattage for my sub. I installed the amp with 12 guage speaker wire,4 guage power and ground wires,a capacitor and I mounted it so that it has good air flow around it. Everything like it should be as far as I know. At low to midrange volumes it's fine, but as soon as you start to put a little power to the sub it keeps kicking the protection circuit off. What I mean is that just as it starts to sound good the amp starts kicking on and off. I've tried adjusting everything!,it doesn't help. This amp just has no power at 1.5 ohms. If it's overheating in march what's it going to do in the middle of summer? I know it's not putting out 600 watts because my buddy's MA only has 500 watts rms and it slams! I wouldn't recommend this amp for anything but 4 ohm operation.

  • I've owned this amp for only 2 days and I am ready to send it back. If it could stay out of protect mode it may be a good deal. It overheats entirely too much. I have it pushin two 12' cvr Kickers 2 1.5ohms and the sound start out good but its not good for anything on a trip crosstown. Even if I reduce the gain and bass boost I still have an overheating problem. I was tring to keep my system small and simple but this D1200m wasnt the way to go. Ive used D-class Boss amps on most of my system connects and have been satisfied this one let me down.... C'mon Boss!!!!!!!

  • I have this amp powering 1 HFi12d4 at aprox 2 ohms in a bandpass box in an explorer. Its not too shabby. With the cheaper amps cut the max power in half and thats the real max power.

  • Tbone it's no surprise ur amp is cutting out and over heating the amp isn't stable at 1.5 ohms. The instructions will tell u that and i dont even think that the subs r supose to wired to 1.5 ohms i have 2 12in cvr kicker comps and it makes those bump and the amp is cheap i dont have any porblems at all with the amp i hit a 140db and each sub is getting 400 watts cause this amp only puts out around 800 watts

  • I bought this amp a few weeks ago and it runs fine. It is definitely not putting out 1200 watts. It puts out more around 400. My friend has a nice alpine 500 watt mono amp and it blows this one away.
