Product Reviews For Pioneer Premier AVIC-F90BT

  • Ordered one of these units and went to the local stereo shop to purchase a harness. Installer said he hoped I didn't buy it online, he had installed 3 of them that didn't work. Said Pioneer had a recall and that if the box didn't have a blue dot the unit would be defective. I was relived to see a blue dot once I received my unit, and installation into my Lincoln Mark LT was smooth, but unfortunately, there were major problems with my unit. When the initial start up menu was scrolling, the touch screen was unresponsive. On the settings menu, I can only access AV items, cannot access phone or navigation settings. Went back and did some troubleshooting on my wiring, and everything is hooked up as it should be, the unit is clearly defective. I will return this and go with another brand, very disappointed in Pioneer.

  • Mine works perfectly. I have it hooked up with top of the line JL Audio components and two Kicker Comps VRs. It sounds awesome and has not given me any problems yet.

  • There were some firmware updates to take care of previous problem stated. Some menu's are not accessable without e brake engaged correctly or installed according to instructions.. I doubt product was defective.

  • This Head Unit Rocks!!! period. Let me open your minds to the world of moding. theres this site (Avic411) that has detailed instructions/file downloads to modify your head unit to do all kinds of new and cool stuff. Because of the Firmware updates for these it opend up a way to hack system files on the Windows OS this deck runs off of. You can hack the motion sensor to play video and use Nav while driving. You can move around buttons and features, add new features, change/improve the TTS voice to a list of differant voices including Kitt from night rider!! Dont like the Nav software Pioneer uses? Switch it out for Tom Tom, IGO, or Garmin GPS software. Dont like the font? download any custome font and apply it to your head unit or completely change the theme of your unit(button layout/color/button size/font/background/load screens). add in a a spped cam alert feature. Dont like the button layout? Learn how to move and adjust them around to your liking. Dont be scared off by not being computer savvy, they have detailed instructions and troubleshooting forums to help and even if you mess up you can just reload the original data.zip from the current firmware update. This site is a must see for any Pioneer avic series owners.

  • My system had the new firmware so I can't complain about the unit, bootup is a little slow. My biggest complaint is the maps are 5-7 years out of date and Pioneer does not offer an update - give me a break. So paying for a GPS that has your house in a blank space, or address not in database message, or you missed your turn because they built a whole new intersection on the highway is lame. My little garmin out performs this unit on direction. I guess Pioneer doesn't mind demonstrating how poor their products are - simply amazing.

  • Well I bought the AVIC-D3 and installed it myself with a friend and had no problems. I absolutely love it I never have to look up map quest again. However if I had to do it again I would have never would have hooked it to my parking brake. So It could prevent me from doing things on the fly, because it got really cold one morning and my parking brake sensor stopped working for awhile, temporally disabling my ability to use my navigation system. Also it requires maps saved on DVD's, to use the navigation system. I think all that should have been saved on a hard drive with in the head unit because it requires you to choose from using your navigation or listening to your favorite CD and if you lose those disks then you have to pay over $200 have them replaced. Anyways I don't know what all this hubbub is about this stuff not working. To all of you who were unlucky enough to get a broken one sorry for your poor luck.

  • AWESOME UNIT!!!!!! Does everything advertised. Voice recognition works wonderfully. Picture is gorgeous, color illumination is a very nice feature to have. Unfortunately mine came with a bad antenna, but OCS was on the ball with this and very good with customer support!! Thanks OCS!!!!

  • So let me start off by saying I love Pioneer products, I've owned 3 h/u(including D3) and own the PRS's and so on. Had this unit installed as an upgrade to the D3, and it was the biggest mistake I ever made. To start off, the buttons on the bottom of the screen rarely trigger when they are hit (and I calibrated the screen many times). The WORST issue is the bluetooth. When I receive a call when I'm already on one the entire unit freezes. The navigation unit won't allow me to always face north which tends to be annoying, although there might be a way to fix this? Please stay away from this unit, it freezes on a daily basis and Pioneer has responded by stating that the 3.0 update will fix all of this....but what I don't understand is why they sell a defective unit then we as customers have to pay another $120 for the update.

  • Got one of these with my Red Scion xB Release 6.0 as part of the entire package. It is a bit slow compared to the portable ones I have owned (Navi). The sound quality with the Pioneer speakers is always the first comment out of everyone's mouth when they get in. Clear vocals past the half way point. I am putting a single 10 at 2 ohms shallow mount polk MM at 300 watts in the rear. Great versatility of discs and iPod formats. Going for 4 Channel Alpine 4.100 with Premier separates and Alpine 1.600 with dual 10's later. Gonna impress thanks to this great starting point.
