Product Reviews For TKO Audio BH-DVD1872

  • I was very aprehensive about buying this stereo because it seemed too good to be true... Turns out it kinda is. I'll start with what I liked about the unit first: The hardware seems pretty sturdy and overall for the price it seems well manufactured. The 5.8 LCD touch-screen works well and makes pretty decent pictures - however the stereo completely fails in every way to capitalize on this asset. The only touchscreen "buttons" this unit makes use of are on the main menu - within any function you kind of have to know where to touch the screen to get menus to appear. For example when in radio mode the screen is simply a wallpaper image with crappy text poorly superimposed over top - to change presets you touch the area that a station's frequency is displayed. The Bluetooth feature connects to my phone very quickly - however the caller audio is so low I have to turn the volume all the way up just to hear them (if I forget to turn it back down before ending the call whatever I was listening to before will just about blow me off the road!). Speaking of volume - none of the sources match each other very well and I find that a comfortable listening level for the radio hovers between 4 and 6 on a 0-30 scale. All the other features are provided by what seems to be a regular DVD player stuffed inside the box - all the remote commands and display information appears like you'd see on your TV at home so all you see is a thin little line of text at the top to display track/title information for MP3s for CDs, the memory card or USB. On top of all that I've had issues with the face-plate not staying docked. Although TKO's website suggests the TV tuner is an ATSC, it is not - it is analog only! In summary I'd have to say the hardware is great for the money and the feature set is excellent - however the software just plain sucks.
