Product Reviews For Pyle Pro PT4001X

  • First and foremost: This amplifier is NOT 5500 watts. Don't be mesmerized and fooled by insultingly inaccurate large numbers. The only way this amp could produce 5500 watts is If Lightning Strikes it (i.e. 5500 Watts I.L.S.). In reality, it's producing a maximum of about 250 continuous RMS watts per channel at 8 Ohms. That means don't embarrass yourself by posting videos on Youtube claiming that you have a 5000, 10000, or 50000 watt stereo system in your bedroom that is running off of a standard 110 volt / 15 - 20 amp circuit breaker...OOPS!

Pros: This amp is simple and produces good, clean, and powerful sound at high volumes without distorting nor overheating. The cooling design is great. There are two 60mm fans inside the front of the chassis. Each fan is attached to a large square tubular heatsink (one on each side of the chassis) that extends the entire depth of the chassis. All of the MOSFETS (8 per side) are attached to these large fan cooled heatsinks. I've rocked out on this amp for hours and although it was warm (105 - 110 degrees), I could still comfortably put my hand on top of it. Another great quality of this amp is that it feels well built. It's nice and heavy (about 40 pounds), and it feels very solid and sturdy. If you want a simple amplifier that you can hook up to your PC (via 3.5mm to RCA patch cable), use as a home stereo system, or just need something powerful to take to an outdoor party, then this amplifier is for you.

Cons: It's only a 2 channel amp. I would have liked it to be a 4 channel amp, but I knew it was only 2 channel before I purchased the unit; so I can't complain much. Also, there is a push button circuit breaker on the rear of the chassis. It would be a nice feature, but it doesn't seem to do much good. It seems very cheap and flimsy. I've actually blown the internal fuses without the amp setting off the rear circuit breaker. Maybe I have a defective unit, but either way, it doesn't seem to be functional. Finally, it would have been nice if there were more than one set of RCA inputs on the unit.

Other Thoughts: I'm tired of underpowered home theater receivers (from Sony, Onkyo, ect) that overheat and can't produce good quality sound at moderate to high volume levels. Consequently, I bought the PT 4001X amplifier for my home stereo system. So far, I'm very pleased with it.

Package Contents: Amp, manual, and power cord. The power cord is the same type of power cord that you might find on your computer's power supply unit and monitor.

    *Side Note* This amplifier uses 4 (2 per side) 5 X 20mm 8 Amp / 250 Volt fast-blow fuses.
