I just bought a new (used) car, it came with a awful aftermarket head unit (Boss) so I went for an upgrade with a pioneer 9500BHS, took everything apart and found this little guy in the back of the radio, I was planning to buy another adapter but since the car already had this one I decided to give it a try.
hooked everything up, very simple and proceed to the programming part.
you will need first to program the IR mode the devices needs to use depending on you head unit brand and model and then program the functions
programming was easy once I understand how it worked because you get contradictory information in the web site and in the installation manual for the product.
once programmed all the buttons worked in my car and was able to program the head unit to work properly.
I took two stars of because
1. the programming process is not clear enough
2. it has a little lag from when you press the button in the steering wheel and when the head unit reacts
in fact the lag is not that bad, just is not absolutely immediate, lets say is usable, not that bad.
also consider that you need to run a wire with the IR sensor kind of close to the IR receiver in the head unit, that may mess with the look in your car, but is not that bad. It may be complicated to run the cable to a nice spot but that will depend on your car configuration
overall it is a good product.
CHECK THE WIRING CONFIGURATION FOR YOUR CAR BECAUSE SOME CARS/MODEL WILL REQUIRE TO WIRE A CABLE FROM THE STEERING COLUMN AND THAT WILL TAKE A LOT OF WORK. OTHER SOLUTIONS AVAILABLE HERE IN AMAZON OFFER A SIMPLER SOLUTION.
