The Sound Stream VL-11A is a great choice as a basic media head unit. The sound quality is excellent with just the unit’s Bass and Treble adjustment. The unit offers 3 preset equalizations (Classical, Rock and Pop) which I find take away from the sound quality. The unit does offer a loudness feature which steps up low frequency performance which is fairly decent even when loudness is turned off. The unit only supports MP3 and WMA formats and options for accessing directory structure is limited. There are no options for playing music by genre or selecting specific playlist. I like the appearance of the unit which comes in black with white lighting accents. The unit does not offer the ability to change display colors as with higher end units, which could be a down side if you are trying to match a custom interior. The unit is high powered which is another feature you may like if you are like me and you own a vehicle with limited or no space for remote amplifiers. I like that the unit offers a 3.5mm Auxiliary input for use with phones or other devices that are not (I-pod, pad, etc…), as well as USB and Micro SD up to 32GB which inserts behind the faceplate. All in all this is a nice head unit for someone who is a novice, newbie or like me someone looking for a low cost option to an old out dated or feature lacking factory stereo system.
