These mids and highs completely posses everything it takes to completely reproduce every note and detail with extreme accuracy. I installed a set of these into a gmc durumax with a phoenix gold 4 channel running bout 80 watts to em and wow!! the shear volume and response was absolutely incredible!! make sure to take the time to tune your amps and head unit to really bring it all out. they are worth every penny and it really knocked the socks off the alpine type s that was in before!!
Having owned many different auto stereo systems during my lifetime. I have found MB Quart fills my music needs the best. The vehicle, these speakers will go in is an extended Cab Nissan. The PVF 216 system will be coupled to an MB Quart PAB 4100, to provide the power. Back fill subwoofers will be eight inch, Infinity Reference 850's, for a clean bass punch, with no dirt. This is in part, based upon the limited space in the rear of the vehicle. I still haven't decided on a head unit yet, but will choose that component last, when I get nearer to completion. MB Quart is money well spent, and should provide years of excellent sound quality, based on past experience.
These MB PVF216's were quite the bargain at $146 new. I just put them into my 2004 350z roadster running Pioneer NAV deck to old school Nakamichi amps(4x45, 1x240) to these up front and an old school Soundstream 10"(made in Folsom, CA, USA) providing adequate bass. It did take me a while to get them to sound the way I wanted, they didn't sound their best(although not bad at all, just mediocre, way better than stock) right out of the box, as I did try them for a week as is. Build quality seems to by very good, gold screw down terminals were very nice. I flush mounted these big 1" tweets barely into the stock location in the front corner of the window after redrilling(VERY carefully) new 1 5/8 inch holes into my Z panels. X-0vers are large but VERY flexible in multiple mounting options, also, the plexi on 1 side makes them very pleasing to the eye if your into displaying/showing off your details. Tweets I found to be very bright! X-overs had dB reduction settings at 0,-1,-3,-5 and I removed door panels again to adjust them to -5dB. It seems more sensible to have to add some gain, when needed, from the deck rather than reduce brightness at a specific frequency that may not be avx on your eq or treble setting. It would've been great if the engineers at MBQuart designed the tweeters that way from the get go; way too bright for most I think. Once all settings(no soundstages, no eq adjustments) were set to flat and sub xover point(50Hz) determined, they now REALLY shine! Mids are outstanding! The tweeters now favor the low end but are still very clear up top, not overwhelming. Horns and vocals are impeccable! Of course, stock speakers on the Z were so terrible, it could be just the vast improvement that is making me love these MB's so much. Although, this is my 3rd pair in 20 years and it would be a lie to say I wasn't biased. I came very close to purchasing either the Focal's or Hertz's but didn't feel fuzzy about spending that kind of money on a convertible with poor/no acoustics. I'm guessing the pricier brands probably still sound better than these MB's, but it's really hard to tell unless you install all three in the same vehicle. That being said, it was worth the extra trial time and tweeking to fine tune these MB's in my car. As I said earlier, $146 for a new pair of german made 1" inverted titanium tweeters, poly woofers with rubber surrounds and exceptional x-over array is, imho a better, more prudent purchase for me. I highly recommend these as alternatives to Focal or Hertz, especially if $ is a concern. After some minor adjustments, these MB Quart PVF216's sound incredible!
