Great subs for a great price. These subs hit hard and have great SQ. So far I have no complaints about them the sq is outstanding and the bass hits very hard.

When you want a little bass in your vehicle but you want it to sound good these subs can and WILL do that. I had a pair of Rockford Fosgate Punch Powers (2001) that were loud..but sounded HORRIBLE!! I wasnt alone in my purchase as a friend of mine bought the same speakers the exact same day. We both struggled trying to tweek our systems..building boxes and changing box locations. Nothing we did made these subs sound clean at all. They just booomed.thing more nothing less. It wasnt until my friend ditched his Powers and bought 3 of these Type R's that I understood what good speakers should sound like. For paying less then half the price of the powers I now have speakers that OUTPERFORM them easily in both SQ and SPL! Granted these speakers are not SPL monsters like the Powers. However the only way to get any decent SQ out of the powers was to restrict the SPL they did have. My point is dont let the cheap price and low wattage handling of these subs fool you. For the price of 1 really GOOD sub; you can easily buy 2 of these REALLY GOOD subs and be better off because of it. Put them in the right enclosure with a good amp and you cant beat the price/performance of these woofers. These subs will outperform ANY single sub at 290 dollars on this site...EASILY! If your thinking about getting 1 single 12" sub at 300 dollars or under.. I would URGE you to get two of these instead. Im powering these speakers with a MTX 2300x amplifier (birth sheet says 883wrms) and they sound AMAZING! These are not just SP subs, these are not just SPL subs. These are one of the best mixes of both you can buy. Even better that they are half the price of one "Great" sub..why not just get two and have a great sounding stereo?
I have one of these in my little tacoma. and OH MY GOD. i was so supprised that it it so hard. I have shown all of my friends and they couldnt belive it. When i took it to the shop to get looked at and the guy said holy $h!t. its awsome i would recomend it to anyone who wants to be heard.
Awsome subs! i have three R-12's in a 94 dakota. mono at 2.6 ohm's powered by fosgate power 1000bd. Holy Sh*! its one of the loudest system's ive herd. dont know about the spl. but its loud. able to break front windshield... would recomend to anyone... but if you have the $ get the new type X sub!
I expected a little more from this sub. It has good specs, and great construction, but it just didn't hit very hard. I have it in a 1-c.f. sealed box in the trunk of my 2003 Toyota Corolla. I am powering it with a 300 watt RMS amp with a built-in crossover at 80hz. The SQ is sweet, but the SPL isn't there. I'm sure this sub would do better in a different configuration. It is a great quality sub.
steve, I'm sorry to hear you don't like the performance of the Type R, but it's because you aren't feeding the sub enough power!! I got 2 12's and 2 15's and my 12's eat up a directed 1100D EACH, the 15's take a 1500D EACH!! they need lots of power to light up. Try more power and I know you'll think different of them. These subs are prolly the best I've had yet, and I've had the 13W7...and HATED it!! Oh yeah, Put the Typre R's in slot port enclosures for really loud/clean output. Peace yall.
Quality that is affordable! We got a couple of different set ups with these, they all sound great, and we saved big! Use with a MRD-M300/301/500/or 501 and you may notice for the money spent you got a pretty nice set up!
I just bought these subs and connected them to Phoenix Gold Octane R amps in a Subzone vented box and they sound amazing. I had the installer connect the voice-coils in parallel to make them 2 ohm instead of 4 ohm, and I am putting out 500 watts rms per sub. They were measured at 140 decibels and the amps weren't even pushing out all their juice. Also have an Alpine head-unit with the system. Best 2,100 bucks I ever spent.
I have had 2 typeR 12`s in a sealed box made for it. I blew it 2 times within 3 weeks with a punch 500 bridged to 2ohms.Speaker was wired 2ohm stable. I will say it slammed until blew it both times.
I just got these in my 2003 Dodge SX R/T. 2 of them infact. And they pound like hell. I have a MRD-M501 on each of them. I never heard anything like this before. If I had the extra money, I would have gotten 2 Type X 12in with a MRD-M1001 on each sub.
I bought 2 of these because I tended to over power my subs and blow them. I have them wired at 1 ohm into a Memphis belle amp, 1100 watts, and mounted in a ported box. These are going to shake my car apart.
Alpine R12s hit hard and there a great price what more could you ask for. Both of mine are powered by rockford 800a4 and I plan on getting 2 more soon.
