Product Reviews For Alpine SWX-1243D

  • first of all i recently owned the type x first generation subs and they were great.but i have to say wow how could they improved on the second generation subs .alpine did two things they changed the electrical Q of the driver and they made the driver breath better which resulted in 30% more handling power across the voice coil and it will remain very accurate ,alpine claims the drivers get about 1.5db more. I also changed my enclosure to a dual down fireing ,ported G-force enclosure by gforceperformaceaudio i have them in a strictly sound quality enclosure and they hit a 151db and i only have about two hours of actual tuning into it, i have won first place in every spl comp ive been in so far this season.so all i can say to all you curious enthusist out there try out a g force enclosure i guarantee you will not be disspointed no matter what subs you have there is a enclosure for it.

  • i have one of the second generation type x and it is honestly the best sub that i have owned. i have owned infinity 1252's, dual, and audiobahn aw125. i have a kenwood kac-9103 hooked up to it giving it 900 watts rms and it sets car alarms off everywhere i go, broke the seal on my rear window, rattled screws off my bumber, and broke my taillight on my cadillac into three pieces. i hit 139 decibels so i cant complain with it, especially at $280 on here and $489 everywhere else. thanx ocs.

  • I am running a 1001-bd fosgate amp to 1 alpine swx-1243d, 12 inch sub inn a custon vented box. I wasent very impressed my 13w7 JL Audio hit a lot louder and cleaner with same amp! currently trying to upgrade!

  • I recently had 2 of these hooked up to a single mrd-m1005..and they still hit pretty hard. I just got another mrd-m1005 the other day, and my god these things pound. Only bad thing i have to say about these is that there tearin my car apart. literally...dont put these things in a cavalier :/ and theres no point of adjusting my review and side mirrors when theyll get knocked out of place after 5 seconds of music.. but to the guy under me.. I would only hope that you would get a better speaker after payin $400 more than what u paid for this one.t bashing JL, i like them but compare this to the 12w7 instead of the 13w7. A guy around here has 2 12w7's and there is not much difference at all, not for what he paid anyways. I paid about 1300 for my subs amps and box..while he paid well over 2500 for his setup. Bottom line, these things pound HARD. And the sound quality is amazing...for the price..these are the way to go

  • i have two of these baby's in a 2001 mustang gt and let me tell you, these are simply amazing! i have them in a dual ported spl box and they slam, i have to tighten the wing and licence plate cover because it moves so much! i have the soundstorm cr4000.1 amp and it does better on them than i thought for the money, so buy some of these big boys, if you dont have the money, i would recomend type r's they are awesome too.

  • I just had two of these Subs installed into my audi a4 i hooked it up to the Hifoniks Brutus BXi 2006D amplifier. And let me tell you these things pound. First day i had them installed my neighbors called my house saying their mirror shook in their bathroom as i drove by. you can barely swallow when you have these turned up a little.

  • Very impressive, a little power hungry though, as i have the MTX Thunder Elite 1501 and it seems to not wanna make these guys scream like the should. Other than that simple great.

  • i recently purchased this from ocs and im very impressed. i have 2 Alpine MRP-M850 hooked up to it. 1 to each voice coil in a q-logic. 1.75 cb ft. ported box and this sub slams. my neihboors came out of there houses because it was hitting so hard. alpine all the way

  • I have just one of these the 2nd generationg hooked up to an MRD-M1001 and my god does this thing hit hard and low and with out losing any sound clarity at all you have to hear it to believe it, I am in love with this thing. I am thinking about getting a 10" Type X to throw beside it for the higher notes.

  • i recently been experting with the new type x driver i found that these subs can really handle more than alpine clains i have found that this new generation sub can handle well over 2000 watts rms i just hooked them up to the new rockford fosgtae 4000bd amp i increasted by 3 db i am now hitting a 154 db in a pure sound quality box. I purchased my enclosure from www.gforceperformanceaudio i also had it custom designed and tuned. i also compete in sq comps and i have won first place in sq and spl devision in the same comp. in my opinion i belive alpies type x subs is a great choice but most peolpe do not understand it has a lot to do with the correct enclosue volume and direction you fire the driver.

  • I had one of these in a 2 cu ft ported box with a alpine mrd-m1005 for about 4 months. It hit hard and the spl was great. However, one day it just cut out and that was it. I blew both of the voice coils. Dont get to confident on how much you can push to these because theyre nearly perfect, but not invincible

  • I have an alpine swx12" woofer in my 2007 honda accord with an alpine pdx1000.1 amp. I had the sub in a audio enhancer box but after reading the feedback about g-force boxes I ordered one. all I can say is unbelievable! It's the most intense bass I ever heard! I went to a local dealer and for $25.00 he hooked it up the the computer it hit 148.9! he was so impressed with only 1 sub! alpine and gforce ROCKS! I wonder why online car stereo dosen't sell them.

  • I own two of these wonderful subs. These subs are loud, they have great sound quality (with the right box of course). I would recommend these subs to anyone who loves loud, clear, and obnoxious bass!!! I currently am only running one 12" with an MRD-M1001 and its so LOUD!!! Great subs, and if you think the price is high... wait untill you hear one and you will understand the pricing behind it!!

I used to have 4 Infinty Perfect 12" on these same amps but they didnt even compare to the two 12" x's i have now! Realy happy with my type X's i would recommend these subs to anyone who loves loud!

  • I have 2 12" Alpine type X with one Lanzar 4000W and these things shake the autozon among making peoples car rattle in front of me, I am planning on 2 more of these as they rock, I have an 03 Durango and shakes that. I would highly recommend these. Also I am pushing more then 1000RMS with no problem ever not getting warm or anything, these can go beyond what they say.

  • Oh. My. God. I have two of these in a ported each running off a kicker zx1500.1. Their currently only on 1/4 power to break them in. I've literally had friends get in my car and duck and cover their ears once the first bass notes come through. They even hit double-kick bass in a lot of metal music for being ported. Definately exceeded my expectations by far. And I can be heard coming from about 3 blocks away XD

  • It was fairly loud when I first hooked it up, not too impressive. Until I realized I had the amp switched wrong! I have it in a custom ported box tuned to the sub, and it hits unbelievably hard. Can't wait to get a second!!!

  • used to only run JL product i mean everything subs amps speakers wire all of it. well a friend of mine picked up one of these and the pdx 1000 watt amp and it sounded great we pulled it and tried it on my jl 1000/1 amp and DAMN! i think i might just be switching to alpine subs not as hard hitting as my w7 but the accuracy is sooo much better. i starting to believe the whole jl is overrated thing as im finding there are many brands that are releasing products just as good or better than jl. definitly reccomend this sub, great for the money and if you think you need more bump than this gives then you are just looking for attention. great sub and phenominal price .

    12/15/2008

  • this sub has never let me down this thing is really hard to blow i couldnt even blow it with 2000 watts rms so i just stop trying and make sure u have a amp that pushes at least 1400 rms to take out the pure power the more power u give it the more accurate it gets and no alpine or jl amp will fully push this so dont waste ur money get shit like hifonics i know its not the cleanest amp but alot of power and half the prics than jl and alpine and make sure get a custom box and this beats the jl w7 rf t2 and the mojos dont be mistaken this sub will take alot of power and this site used to sell it for 250 now its 290 what a dumbass but is still cheaper and ligiet than the others

  • I have had the type R before and loved it. BUT this sub will air condition your truck. I am pushing it with a Rockford Fosgate 1500-1BD mono and it is crazy. Not just loud but clean and low. I love the remote EQ option as well. Strongly recommend a sealed box....this sub can handle a sealed box with no problem.

  • I bought this sub and expected it to far exceed my Type R 12". Well it does!!! However, I have it powered by a Kenwood 1800watt amp. What is the best amp for this sub? Alpine? Rockford?

  • Tried ported in a custom fiberglass box with the 10 and it was too loud. It loved having 2 PDX 1000's on it though. Ran it like that for a year before sealing it. I mean...the ported tuning is around 32 Hz, but my sealed box lowpass filter is set at 28 Hz. I don't think the ported box would hit much down there. The sealed does really well for soundstage blending and down deep but make sure the box is big without leaks. Type X Sub weighs half that of W7 which is probably where the extra cost comes from lol. Naw, it's all personal taste, wallet, and image. They are good subs that should last a long time. No complaints for 2 years now.

  • This sub is hands down the best sub ive ever heard I got mine like 2 months ago and this thing shakes my whole body people always ask me to turn it down when i turn it up MOST of the way. This sub is deep and loaded with sq would recommend it over any sub out there

  • I got mine 3 months ago. I have a custom box from bills in new iberia, lousiana. I have one 12 in a custom ported box with a kicker 750.1 mono amp. This thing is very loud, people think i have one fifteen in my car. They cant believe one twelve is that loud. It turns alot of heads thats for sure. Alpine is definitely the way to go!!!!

  • this sub is a benchmark for subwoofers everywere. to a certain point lol. the sound quality when installed correctly is immaculate, almost untouchable. but for that you have to give up the deep shake. when put into a large ported enclosure is wen the beast comes out. but you will lose sound quality. had 2 of these (12 inch) each getting 1000 watts rms in a 6 cube ported box. easily heard for miles. 153.9 db on a termlab. but no sound quality at all. also if u give them full power they burn out within 2 months. the voicecoils could be stronger that is my only issue with the sub.

    steve
    11/17/2009

  • I bought this sub after reading all the good reviews. I was disappointed for the first 2 days. I wanted to return it. It sounded very stiff and there was hardly any excursion and the 1 12" Type-R sounded a lot better and louder. After that 2nd day of "bassing out", I noticed the sub getting louder, cleaner, and just hitting way harder than the Type-R and for all the other subs I ever had. This sub is for real! I forgot that there's a "break-in" period.

  • Is it true that good things happen to good people or are they just lucky. Anyway about 2 months ago i was at the club with some of my homeboys, when i over heard this guy talking about how type r's were better than the x's, and he whished hr still had his. Well i've had 2 type r's for about 2 years. I offered him my type r's and to pay the differance since my subs were older, i was in shock when he took an even trade. Now i have these in my 2007 dodge charger the subs are in a 2.5 cubic feet per chamber box tuned to 32hz powered by 2 kicker zx1500.1, one on each sub, and 2 kinetik batteries a 1400 under the hood, and a 2500 in the trunk. Went to extreme audio for a db test 154.3db on the meter, the tech said the base would be more accurate if the box was sealed, but sounds good to me best subs i ever got for free, and they only cost me 2 type r's.

  • It's been about 3 weeks since I installed the Type-X in a 1 cu.box (even though the pre-fab boxes still slam super hard, I wanna give this expensive sub the 2 cubic feet box that it deserves)running off a MRP-M1000 amp and 1 farad battery cap. I think I passed that break-in period, and wow!!! This sub definitely pounds really hard and its pretty loud. You can really feel the whole car taking a pounding. I get looks from far off, even with the windows all the way up. The gain is set just below 1/2 way, and its perfect right now. The only thing, is having an eq or a sub control will help clean up the balance with the mids/highs and some songs have too much bass and the Type-X really takes some songs to a whole new level. I'm running 4 6.5" Type-R's components and a 4ch 400 watt amp. This may not be an SPL sub like the Type-R, the Type-X still slams way harder and the bass notes sound a lot stronger and cleaner.

  • Before purchasing the Type-X 12 I was a huge fan of pioneer premier's subwoofers. Having bought the TS-W3002D2 from onlinecarstereo and waiting on a backorder for over a month i decided to downgrade to a TS-W258D2 instead. Within the first day i blew the sub which fault I will admit was my own (over powered). The next day found the Type X on sale and decided to give Alpine a shot. Powered by a Hifonics BXI 1610D wired at 2ohm this sub BUMPS. This sub by itself easily sounds like you have two 12s bumpin. No regrets with sub period. Price tag may be steep for a value system but every penny you invest you easily see with the superior quality of this sub. Two things of note for anyone intrested in buying this sub; first this sub is huge literally! Make sure the box is deep enough to hold it. Second thing to note before buying is make sure you invest in a capacitor I myself neglected to grab one and not only did alternator die it actually burned my alternator/water pump (engine cooling) belt off which resulted in a blown headgasket making a easily avoidable 30$ investment into a new engine. Hope this helps someone out there considering buying this sub. Onlinecarstereo has always been exceptional at customer service and having record fast shipping.

  • yo wat up guys.. i have an 07 denali on 26's.. i have 6 of these alpine TYPE X's with a custom ported u shaped box fits perfect. and boy i tell u these bad boyz be poundin hard.. i have six 3000W performance teknique amps running to each sub,3 batteries,1 8 farad rockford cap. and also running 300w planet audio component speakers with tweets being ran by a 4 channel 600w performance teknique amp. you can here me coming miles away and man i tell yea reno is hella strict about loud music ive gotten 4 tickets for disturbing the peace, all $450.00 each.. i recommend these subs to any 1 out there that wants to go competion. these are it. i came close to giving one of my buddies a heartattack. i backed my whip up opened my trunk. shattered the front windows to my house i was only 40 sum ft away.. these be banging... gotta get em.. holla

  • I have two of these 12's and a custom ported box built to alpines specs. I have a Hifonics BRZ2400.1D amp (CEA Compliant) running at 1 ohm with a kinetik 2000 battery and 220 power bastard alternator. I have had 4 kicker cvx's, 2 l7s, and diamond d3s all powered by hifonics amps. These X's are the loudest subs i have personally heard. It's almost too loud for my liking-gives me a headache and ear ache if i listen full volume for more than a minute and i've had some loud systems. The subs sq is very nice also. I haven't heard the jl w7 but im willing to bet they could compete, probalby isn't louder theoretically because the w7 has more xmax and volume displacement though. If you run true power to these subs and the correct box, wiring, and battery...these subs should be plenty loud enough. Anything louder and your gonna have some seriouse hearing damage.

    8/3/2010

  • Pretty amazing people rank this sub the best. because it really is. I have two of them tuned at 32 hertz running two jl audio jx 1000 with two batteries for each amp. I can tell you this. You dont want anymore bass. If you had anymore it would be unenjoyable. You would damage your hearing and your bass listening days will be over. Definitely the best subs I have ever had. I thought my best sub was my IDMAX. I dont think they will beat the alpines. and for the price of two alpines is the cost of one idmax. 2 alpines on 1800 watts rattles everthing in my car, body and brain. If you want to be obnoxiously loud get two, If you want normal get one. You hear about they dont get loud.... please get two then. I think two is completley overkill to be honest. You will not want anymore bass unless you are already deaf. SQL sub all day long

  • These speakers are some of the best 12" inch subs that I've ever owned! It gives you the bass that you're craving but with a clear quality of sound. Very nice balance. I currently have 2 1000x watt Rockford Fosgate Punch Amps, one to each sub and it sounds unbelievable. Thumbs up, no complaints!
