Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- • Does the XP950 actually help when the voltage drops during heavy bass?
Yes. Several owners reported noticeably better voltage stability after adding the XP950. One user with roughly 1,300+ RMS reported that voltage previously fell to 11.8V but stayed around 14V at idle after installing the XP950 and upgrading the electrical system.
- • Can the XP950 be used to support a high-powered amplifier?
Users have successfully paired the XP950 with systems ranging from about 1,200W to 2,000W and beyond. One reviewer reported using it with a 2,000-watt mono amplifier, while another used two XP950 batteries in a 3,500-watt system.
- • Why can't I connect my factory battery cables directly to the XP950?
This is one of the most common installation complaints. The XP950 uses threaded M6 terminals rather than conventional automotive top posts, so users have reported needing additional adapters or making their own adapters to connect factory-style cables.
- • Is the XP950 smaller than people expect?
Yes. Some owners were surprised by how compact the battery is compared with conventional automotive batteries. Despite its small footprint, users frequently mention that it is relatively heavy for its size and provides substantial power for a secondary battery.
- • Can the XP950 be used as the main battery in a vehicle?
This is worth checking carefully before installation. The XP950 is primarily intended as a supplemental/secondary battery, and Crutchfield specifically notes that it isn't designed to replace the vehicle's OEM battery or be installed under the hood. One customer did successfully use it as a primary battery, but that was outside the manufacturer's intended application.
- • Does the XP950 work well for a second-battery setup?
Yes. Multiple owners use it as an auxiliary battery for car audio, lighting, and other accessories. Users have reported installing it in trunks, behind seats, and alongside another battery to provide additional reserve power.
- • Has anyone experienced an XP950 battery failure or leak?
There is at least one customer report of an XP950 leaking after approximately six months and needing replacement. This appears to be an isolated user report rather than a widespread complaint, since many other owners describe long-term reliability.
- • Can the XP950 prevent headlights from dimming with a powerful stereo?
It can significantly reduce dimming when the rest of the charging system is properly upgraded. Owners have reported eliminating or greatly reducing light dimming with systems around 1,600W–3,500W, although battery capacity alone cannot compensate for an inadequate alternator or undersized wiring.
- • Is the XP950 difficult to mount because of its unusual size?
The compact dimensions can actually make placement easier, but some owners have had to create custom mounting arrangements or choose locations such as behind a rear seat or in the trunk. One user specifically noted that the battery was smaller than expected and another reported making custom terminal adapters.
- • Can two XP950 batteries be used together for more electrical reserve?
Yes. Real-world owners have successfully run multiple XP950 batteries together. One customer used two XP950s in a truck alongside the original battery, while another reported running two units with a 3,500W system and maintaining stable voltage.

Nice battery but it needs to come with the top post adapters so it can be hooked up like a normal car battery to the factory cables.

Hooked it up with a 2000-watt mono amp and its taking the power really well. With amps like these, you need a power source that can handle the demand with ease without putting too much pressure on your vehicle’s main battery, and having one like the XP950 is really now a necessity.

I've had it on my boat for quite some time, and it's proven to be a reliable power source.
