Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- • Why is my XS Power XV4900 not compatible with my high-output alternator?
The XV4900 is intended for charging systems using an alternator rated at 150 amps or less. If your vehicle has a higher-output alternator, verify compatibility before installation because using the battery outside its specified charging conditions can create performance and warranty concerns.
- • Why won't my XV4900 fit correctly in my original battery tray?
The XV4900 uses a Group 49 case size, but vehicle battery compartments can vary in clearance and terminal positioning. Its approximate dimensions are 13.90 × 6.93 × 7.48 inches, so measure the tray and check cable reach before ordering. Users have reported problems when replacement batteries did not match their vehicle's terminal arrangement.
- • Why does my XV4900 seem to lose power faster than my old AGM battery?
The XV4900 uses Lithium Titanate technology and has a listed capacity of only 6 Ah, although its lead-acid-equivalent rating is higher. It is designed around high power delivery and lightweight performance rather than providing the same reserve capacity as a large conventional AGM battery.
- • What should I check if my XV4900 struggles to start the vehicle after sitting overnight?
Start by checking for a parasitic draw, charging-system issue, loose connections, or an abnormal battery condition. Users have reported batteries requiring frequent charging or failing to hold a charge, although those experiences do not establish that every XV4900 will have the same issue.
- • Can excessive heat permanently damage the XV4900?
Yes. XS Power's installation information warns against prolonged exposure to temperatures above approximately 140°F (60°C). Avoid installing the battery near extreme heat sources and make sure the battery compartment provides suitable protection.
- • Why is my car audio system still clipping with the XV4900 installed?
The XV4900 is rated for applications up to 1,500 watts, so a larger audio system may exceed its intended application. Clipping can also result from inadequate charging, undersized wiring, poor grounds, or incorrect amplifier gain settings. The battery should not be expected to compensate for an electrical system that is undersized for the amplifier.
- • What if the M6 terminals on the XV4900 don't connect to my factory battery cables?
The XV4900 uses M6 terminal bolts, which may require the correct terminal hardware or adapters for a particular vehicle. Do not force an incompatible factory connector onto the battery; confirm the required terminal arrangement before completing the installation. Similar XS Power battery users have reported terminal-fitment problems with factory connections.
- • Can I mount the XV4900 in any position inside my vehicle?
Before changing the battery's orientation, follow the manufacturer's installation instructions and ensure the battery is firmly secured. The installation documentation specifically warns against physical damage from improper mounting, impacts, or crushing forces.
- • Why does my XV4900 show unusual voltage after charging?
A lithium battery's voltage behavior can differ from a conventional lead-acid battery. Use a suitable meter and follow the recommended charging procedure rather than judging battery condition from voltage alone. XS Power lists 13.6V as a 100% resting-voltage reference in its XV-series documentation.
- • What can cause an XV4900 warranty claim to be rejected?
Conditions such as over-discharge below 10V, overcharging above 14.5V, water damage, physical damage, improper installation, or operation outside recommended conditions are specifically identified as warranty exclusions in the XV4900 documentation. Keeping charging voltage and installation conditions within specification is therefore important.
