- • Why doesn't the RNGR18-DK line up with my Ranger's factory dash?
The RNGR18-DK is made for select 2018+ Ranger models, rather than every Ranger configuration. It is designed to replace the factory storage pocket and use OEM mounting points, so a mismatch usually points to an incompatible vehicle configuration or incorrect dash-kit version.
- • Why won't my PMX receiver sit correctly inside the dash bezel?
The kit supports PMX-1, PMX-2, and PMX-3 source units, but the correct adapter bezel and mounting hardware must be used. Using a different PMX generation or trying to reuse unrelated factory hardware can create alignment problems.
- • Why does the installation guide say no drilling, but my windshield requires drilling?
The dash kit itself is designed to bolt into the Ranger's OEM mounting holes without drilling. However, Rockford lists the Polaris Tip-Out Full Windshield as an exception where a hole must be drilled to accommodate the receiver.
- • Why does the RNGR18-DK replace my factory storage pocket?
That's intentional—the kit converts that unused factory pocket into a dedicated mounting location for the PMX source unit. This gives the receiver a more integrated factory-style appearance instead of requiring a universal aftermarket bracket.
- • Why does my PMX receiver have power but no radio reception?
The RNGR18-DK includes a dedicated 1870 mm PMX antenna, so the antenna connection should be checked if the receiver powers up but AM/FM reception is poor. An improperly connected or poorly routed antenna can cause weak reception even when the receiver itself is working.
- • Why does the dash kit feel different from the original Ranger plastic?
The RNGR18-DK uses injection-molded Centrex plastic with UV inhibitors and is textured/color-matched to the Ranger interior. It is designed to resemble the factory dash rather than simply functioning as a generic metal mounting plate.
- • Why are there so many connectors when the kit is called plug-and-play?
The included harness has seven connectors because it handles the PMX source unit and vehicle-specific connections. Plug-and-play reduces custom wiring, but every supplied connector still needs to be seated correctly for the receiver and related functions to operate properly.
- • Why doesn't the RNGR18-DK automatically include a backup camera?
The dash kit is primarily a PMX source-unit mounting and wiring solution. A backup camera requires the separate compatible camera hardware and, depending on the PMX source, the appropriate camera harness. Rockford's Ranger camera kit is designed to connect through the RNGR18-DK area.
- • Can I use the RNGR18-DK with a Ranger HVAC system?
Yes. The RNGR18-DK's listed compatible accessories include the Polaris HVAC system, so having factory HVAC does not automatically rule out the dash kit.
- • Why does my aftermarket audio system still look unfinished after installing the receiver?
The RNGR18-DK is designed to provide a factory-style mounting solution, but the final appearance depends on using the correct PMX adapter bezel, hardware, and properly routed wiring. The custom-molded construction is specifically intended to match the Ranger's original dash texture and color.
