Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- • Why does the RFGNRL-FWE not seem to fit my GENERAL?
The RFGNRL-FWE is a vehicle-specific 10-inch front subwoofer enclosure for compatible Polaris GENERAL models. Rockford Fosgate recommends checking the compatibility chart before purchase because model year alone does not guarantee fitment.
- • Why is the subwoofer enclosure taking up space under my dash?
The enclosure is designed to use the front area of the GENERAL while providing a dedicated location for a 10-inch subwoofer. Its vehicle-specific shape is intended to integrate into the available space rather than using a large universal subwoofer box.
- • Why does my subwoofer have very little bass after installation?
Weak bass can come from incorrect wiring, amplifier configuration, signal problems, or an improperly connected subwoofer. Before replacing the enclosure, verify the subwoofer wiring and amplifier connections and confirm that the system is receiving the correct audio signal.
- • Why am I hearing engine noise through the subwoofer?
Engine whine is commonly associated with grounding, power wiring, signal-cable routing, or loose electrical connections. Rockford Fosgate recommends keeping signal cables separated from power wiring and using a solid, properly prepared chassis ground.
- • Why does the amplifier go into protection after I install the subwoofer?
A wiring short or stray wire strand can cause an amplifier to enter protection mode. Rockford Fosgate has specifically warned installers to prevent loose wire strands from entering amplifiers during installation because they can create shorts and lead to protection or failure.
- • Do I need to remove the battery before installing the RFGNRL-FWE?
Yes. Rockford Fosgate's installation documentation instructs installers to disconnect the battery's negative terminal before beginning work to help prevent electrical damage, fire, or injury.
- • Why does installation take longer than simply adding a regular subwoofer?
The RFGNRL-FWE is integrated into a vehicle-specific audio system rather than functioning as a universal enclosure. Installation involves mounting the enclosure, securing the supplied hardware, routing the dedicated harness, and connecting it to the compatible audio/amplifier system.
- • Can I use the RFGNRL-FWE with any amplifier I already have?
Not automatically. The enclosure is part of Rockford Fosgate's vehicle-specific GENERAL audio solutions, so amplifier power, impedance, wiring, and system compatibility should be confirmed before connecting an existing amplifier.
- • Why does the subwoofer sound distorted when I increase the volume?
Distortion can result from excessive amplifier gain, clipping, an overloaded signal, or incorrect system settings. Rockford Fosgate recommends troubleshooting the signal chain and amplifier settings rather than simply increasing gain when distortion appears.
- • Is the RFGNRL-FWE suitable for dusty and wet trail conditions?
Yes, it is part of Rockford Fosgate's Element Ready GENERAL audio approach, which is designed to withstand outdoor conditions such as dust, water, UV exposure, and vibration. Even so, proper installation and protection of electrical connections remain important for long-term reliability.
