Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • • Why does installing the RG4-Q3VRC require removing several factory dash panels?
Although the audio connections are plug-and-play, the installation still requires access behind the dash for the amplifier, wiring, and Ride Command integration. The installation guide calls for removing the gauge cluster, cup holder, glove box, and several dash panels.
  • • What happens if the audio system powers on but the Ranger battery connection was installed incorrectly?
Check the main fuse holder, positive battery cable, ground connection, and amplifier power harness. The installation instructions specifically require the fuse holder to be installed between the amplifier power harness and battery connection.
  • • Why should I secure the audio wiring away from the center of the Ranger?
Loose wiring routed near the center column can potentially move toward drivetrain components during operation. SSV Works specifically instructs installers to secure the factory and audio wiring along the center column away from the drive shaft.
  • • Why does the Ride Command screen work while the new speakers produce no audio?
A functioning Ride Command display does not necessarily confirm that the amplifier is receiving its audio signal. Check the Ride Command connection, amplifier harness, signal connections, and amplifier power separately.
  • • Why does the sound change dramatically when switching between ROCK and RIDE?
This is intentional. The Phase EQ amplifier uses different tuning profiles: ROCK is optimized for listening outside or while parked, while RIDE compensates for wind, engine noise, and frequencies affected by helmet use.
  • • Why do the speakers play normally when the RGB lighting controller does not respond?
The audio and RGB functions use separate connections, so a lighting-control problem does not necessarily indicate a speaker failure. Inspect the RGB controller wiring, power connection, and lighting connectors independently from the audio harness.
  • • Why does the bass seem different while driving compared with when the Ranger is parked?
The open-cabin environment, engine noise, wind, and helmet use can dramatically change perceived bass. The RIDE profile is specifically designed to compensate for these conditions.
  • • Why is a drill listed as an installation tool if the system is advertised as plug-and-play?
Plug-and-play refers primarily to the electrical connections rather than eliminating every physical installation step. The official installation instructions list a drill with 3/32" and 9/16" bits, along with several Torx drivers and a Phillips screwdriver.
  • • What should I inspect if the system becomes quiet after extended high-volume use?
Check amplifier ventilation, power and ground connections, speaker wiring, and whether the amplifier has entered a protection state. The kit uses an 800-watt, 5-channel Class D amplifier, so proper installation and secure electrical connections are important under heavy loads.
  • • Why won't the Ranger's dash panels fit back correctly after the audio installation?
Before reinstalling the panels, make sure the new wiring is routed and secured without being pinched behind the factory trim. The installation sequence involves removing numerous push pins and panels, so misplaced harnesses can prevent the dash from sitting correctly during reassembly.
