Product Reviews For JL Audio 10w7

  • The 10W7 has a very powerful deep thump, but it doesn't hit all the notes. If you like low low bass then this is the sub for you.

  • The best sounding overall subwoofer I've ever owned or heard. Also the loudest sub at very moderate power levels. I have 2 of these and a 500/1 on each and it is incredible!

  • Also after reading the post below, I need to add that installing this woofer in the recommended slot port style box helps alot. Also using the JL Audio amps set at the level JL recommends also helps this sub to play ALL tones.

  • This sub is EXPENSIVE, but that's what you need to pay to get the best. JL W7 is in my opinion the best sub ever made.

  • I'm gonna make this as straight forward as possible. There is a reason that the JL10W7 is so expensive. It's because it IS the BEST sub that you can get. This sub is absolutely untouchable. I've been working at Ovation for about a year now. I've experienced all of the name brand subs and I promise you that the JLW7 is the loudest, clearest, hardest hitting, most reliable, and simply the best sub you can possible get. I own just one in the JL slot-ported HO box, and when people hear it they think that I've got 3 or 4 subs in the trunk. They can't believe that all that sound is coming from one single 10. Neither can I to be honest with you. The MTX Thunder 9500 series and the Kicker L7 are the only other speakers out that are almost comparable with the JLW7. Thats almost I said. They hit almost as hard as the W7 but there sound quality isn't even close to that of the W7. Oh, and Dynamat or not, your trunk will rattle, I repeat your trunk will rattle, along with your teeth, adams apple, heart, eardrums, and brain. I honestly don't see how a sub could get any better. Looks like once again JL is King!

  • This is an emazing SQ sub. I love the sound of it. I have it powered by a ppi 1500 running it 750 at 3 ohms. It is incredibally clean. Has the ability to get very loud with low distortion. Would recommend to anyone.

  • man this thing is the best sub ever produced that's all i have to say if money is not an issue i strongly urge people to get one because that is all you need for great bass and sq.

  • I have one and its not as loud as i would like it BUT its deep and sounds clean. i would compare the one 10' W7 with 2 12" rockford HX2 subs. Now if one where to have 2 or 3 of these .. well that would be loud, really loud. Final word: Hits like a truck and SQ to boot!

  • This sub hits, i bought it in the JL sealed enclsoure, the all black with bars in front for $600. Expensive, but what can you expect, it's JL! The Best! I've heard others out there promising this and that, JL actually does. i got a 94 chevy silverado ext. cab. But the box takes up the entire back, only one side. I dont have dynamat, nothing rattle expect the mirrors, which is given. I'm running a JL 500/1 into it and it bumps clean and hard! It hits all the low notes, not much range, but thats how i like it. My only dissapointment was.......... I wish i had two, or wait, three would be nice. Hits hard, im heard from a block away from school when i roll up. If you got the money buy a 13w7, if not go for the 12w7, and if you cant afford that get the 10w7 like me. But do not buy a 8w7. They sound terrible. My buddy has got a 04 f-150 Lariat edition with dual cab or whatever, its 4 door, and hes got 3, 8w7's underneath the back seat, they hit with his fosgate amp, i'm not sure about the wattage, but they sound too bubbly, if you know what i' talking about... Im off subject, to the point: 10w7 hits clean and hard at all levels. takes about a week to break in, but after that, be ready to make your eardrums bleed and pay a lot of tickets.

  • I have 2 w7 10's and a 13 in my mustang and ive won 9 straight competitions. nothing can even come close to these subs and i mean nothing. the 10s are ported to get the loud thump and then i sealed the 13 my car pounds. Money doesnt matter when u are getting this quality

  • i gave it an 8 because of all the beats it missed, The kick is incredible but what gets me alittle ticked is since it cant hit the beat it just blurs the last beat into the next one so, 2 beats count as one that kinda thing. but anyway Great sub recommended for Contests with loudness not neatness

  • Execelent sub! My Friend has the MTX 9500 and (2 12s) and the W7 sounds so much better. I am running 2 10W7s off 2 500/1 JL amps in a competion SQ system (in the JL recommended sealed box). Even though I have the gains and EQs down on the sub amps they still sound phenominal. I use them just to fill in the low end and they do just what I want. Expensive but very well worth it, but if you can't afford it I would highly recommend the W3 or the W6. Only downfall is the complexity of the mounting, but well worth it when it comes to THE DUB7!

  • one Dub7-10 and the 500/1. Shakes all the Mirrors in my truck and the windshield wiper's and cracks in my interior body panels spreading fast. I LOVE it =) most other subs are paper crap.

  • i have 3 of these running off of a 1000/1 jl amp and these slam so hard and clear and i no when i get another amp(500/1) it will sound better because the subs will be getting the recommended rms.

  • I have a 10w7 in a prowedge enclosure (bars go across it) and it HITSSSS with QUALITY in my scion xB. Its space saving, with alot of punch! Highly recommened to anyone who has $1,100, make sure to get the JL Audio 500/1 AMP! its the most efficient amp for this sub, b/c its 3 ohms!

  • I've had my JL Audio 10w7 for about a year and a half now and that thing hits just like it did coming out of the box!! Which means it's gonna be there for you in the long run... Absolutely Amazing!!... I went From 2 12" Infinity Kappas to 2 12" JL Audio w3D2's, and now to the 10" JL Audio w7 yes I went down in size but it sounds like 4 12" w3's ... that's how big a jump they are... The easiest way to explain it is The Infinity's I could hear the bass, and the 12"w3's I could begin to feel the bass, and the single 10"w7 I was manipulating the beat of my heart..ha ha.. and that's just one w7 I couldn't imagine what would happen to my body if I had 3 or 4 the way other people have posted they have... I have a 97 monte carlo which means I have a pretty good amount of air to move with a single sub, but this thing does that in it's sleep... not to mention when it's awake.. The first day I realized it's power was when it was raining and the wiperblades were skiping because of the power of the bass... It left me and my friend speechless about it from then on. If you want a sub that's gonna be with you for the long haul, manipulate the beat of your heart, and make everyone think you have a trunk load of subs, when you know all you have is one 10w7, this is the sub you want or could ever need. Pair it with the recommended 500/1, a 1 farad capacitor, and a ported enclosure, and you'll have the system I just described above.

  • WOW!! Alot more than I bargain for. This sub will probably be the death of my car. I guess that statement sounds foolish with the steep selling price of this speaker, but I honestly had no idea. I have a single 10 inch JL Audio W7 powered my the JL 500/1 and utilizing a the JL Audio CleanSweep in my little Mazda Rx-8 and there is nothing that I can compare it too. I did alot of comparison shopping and could not find anything that I like as much. But I honestly was not ready for what I heard in my car the day the install was completed. I have read some reviews saying the speaker is overrated, but you will find most people who get a W7 sub don't even think about getting anything else. Alot of money well spent on this speaker (IMO). Note: invest in dynamat or some sort of sound deadening if you are thinking about this speaker, trust me!!

  • I have had the 10W7 in the HO box for 10 months or so. I wanted to get the full feel before submitting a review. I have had a 12 wo, a 12 w3 and now this. I have it running off a JL 500/1. I'll say this.....thing compares. For all of you who say this misses notes, READ AND LEARN. You must have your amp set up right. If you have a 500/1 you don't need any of the bass boost or "Q" settings. This woofer is designed to naturally roll off perfectly. You should however set the subsonic filter to 26 hrz. Once tuned in this thing misses NOTHING. I can't say enough about it. Well worth the moola. I have also heard the sealed JL enclosure. If you have the room, get the HO enclosure. Major improvement. My friend had the W7 8 inch sealed box and we made the slot ported box that JL recommends and it made a world of difference. JL for life...

  • This sub is unbelievable. When you use a Jl 500/1 and TUNE IT properly there is not a better 10 inch sub. There may be a 10 inch sub that takes more power and may be louder, but as far as bass fidelity, sound quality and spl there is not a better woofer. JL W7 rocks!

  • I've got 3 10w7's..they hit hard and clean, running a 1000/1 and a 500/1. They hit hard and clean, ive seen others with dub7's and they dont use the JL amps they go and buy rocksford or somethin...DONT DO IT!! it sounds horrible! stick with a JL amp and you will be happy

  • I got a one 10w7 in my 06 Tacoma double cab and it runs off my 500/1 amp through a stock deck and it slams, trust me when i say it slams..... it slams. My boys at work could hear me comming up the road and dats like 3 blocks away. I pulled up to a guy at a stop light and my sub totally spanked his 2 12 inch CVRs. W7 is da clearest and loudest sub you can get for the money.

  • I have a 10w7 in the high output box from jl. Powering it first was a Nakamichi pa-8001 which slammed very hard. So much indeed it took a chip in the windshield, and created a crack across that i could watch. Sub sounds very good. One would not think this thing could move so much air. Then i bought a jl 500/1 hits almost as hard but sounds more accurate at all tones. Honestly people WORTH EVERY PENNY.

  • I replaced two 15W0's with one 10W7 and ran the same amp to it (500/1).. the single w7 hits lower then both the 15's did and sounds way better. I love letting people hear the bass then seing the look on their face when they see its only one 10.. great sub.. worth the money.. jl all the way

  • JL couldn't possibly do a better job than they have with the W7 series. I've yet to find a better sub on the market, at this particular size even. I have one with a 500/1 JL amp (the perfect combo, bar none). All you'll ever need is one, unless you're into SPL type events. And truth of the matter is, this sub isn't specifically made for SPL alone. That's where the value comes into play. Rarely does a 10" sub come along ready to play with subs of much larger size. For all of those that say they hate the way it hits every 3rd note and what not, chances are, you're a novice, or just a beginner. Find a professional or a seasoned audiophile to help you set your sub and amp up correctly. The W7 is so dead on in sound reproduction, and the way it blends in with a well designed sound system. I could sit here for a very long time to talk about the feat of engineering that went into developing this series. My hat goes off to JL, words simply don't do this product justice.

  • This is the best subwoofer that I have ever listened to! I have this 10w7 hooked up to my JL500/1v2 and it is by far the perfect match. This sub pounds out the lows, and the highs never missing a beat.

  • this is one heck of a woffer. both sq and spl. the only drawback is it needs real, clean power and the RIGHT box. i run mine off an mtx 81000d that i have tweaked to put out 900 watts rms 4ohms at 12.5v. the w7 will handel even more power than this. i have clocked in at 138.7db with just one in a vented and properly tuned box. but this is a sq system that i have 5 trophies to show for.

  • Wow just picked up my 10w7 and I have to say its louder than the 12's I used to own. Louder than my two 10's I had before that. This thing pounds and you won't be disappointed in it. The only thing you may question is, is it too loud? LOL This thing makes me wonder if I have to much bass now because it pounds!! I have pulled up next to many people at a stop light with their windows up and all of a sudden they start looking around until they find out its your car and they stare at you or they just give you a thumbs up. lol. Great SUB!!!

  • just put 2 of these in an 01 cobra with a jl 1000v2 in a custom rhino lined dual ported enclosure... I upgraded from 2 12 w6v2s with 2 jl 500/1 and not only do these tens hit cleaner and more direct on every note but they get rediculously loud ppl hear em and think i got 4 15s in my trunk lol NOBODY can touch jl especially there dub 7 if your looking for rich deep articulate accurate bass go with a 10 w7 and jl500 or if you like spl get a 12w7 or 13w7 or do wat i did and get 2 10w7s and you will be louder and cleaner then a 13.5w7

  • I have been through many different subwoofers and this specific one hits EXTREMELY hard with a JL Audio 500/1. I am finally happy and satisfied with this subwoofer and trust me, I have been through many others such as the Rockford T1 and T2 Power, JL W3 and W6. I also had a W7 but for some reason, this 10" W7 hits so hard that my whole coupe shakes. LOOK NO MORE, this is the top of the line subwoofer, 100% guaranteed.

  • I bought 2 of these for 225 a piece, and two 5001v2 for 250 a piece everything new. These little 10" can't go wrong. Best 10" on the market. Amazing bass and if you have the money get one or two!

  • All I can say is WOW! Ihave had pairs of 12' Punch, Crossfire, Infinity, Polk, Alpine and the list goes on. The two 12" Crossfire P1s were the closest sound quality to these JLs. I now run two 10W7s and they are the best subs I have ever bought. They are wired to a Memphis 1000D amp and sound incredible. Great sound quality and can hammer hard while staying in control. The best money I have ever spent on subs. Just make sure you buy or build a box to JL specs to get the performance out of them.
