Product Reviews For Alpine SWR-1042D

  • This sub. gives you the most SPL and sound quality for your money, Compared to the Rockford or MTX 8510 sub. which all my freinds and the streets have. Since my freinds heard this sub. put its foot down they all agree this is the chosen one! Also to back our comment up, would you take an advice from a car club thats been around for 11 yrs. that's heard and bought it all!

  • definatly better then my friends 2 10 rockfords in his hatchback. i got this in a vented 1.2 cubic foot box and it sounds absolutely wonderful. i could run some more power to it perhaps seeming i only have a jl e1400d runing it but definatly beats the hell out of alot of other 10s thats for sure. get a few.

  • i have two of these hooked up to 1 ohm at about 800 watts a piece. Anything louder than these are just for show. these give me a headache on half volume with my gain all the way down after about two minutes. Great SQ and really LOUD!

  • Ok, So there once was a man named David. He worked in a stereo store called online car stereo. one day two guys came in and they wanted to buy a pheonix gold amp and sub. David didn't like that choice so he recommended that those two guys buy an alpine R12 and a hifonics brutus amp. He made a statement that this stereo can be heard a block away, it'll rattle the mirrors in the car and it will make your eyes water. I't was true and i'm glad he changed my mind because now my eyes water when i'm driving down the road in my 1999 Camaro Z28.

  • I BOUGHT A PAIR OF THESE 4 YEARS AGO AND THEY OUTPERFORM ANY SPEAKER IVE EVER HAD... I HAVE 2 4001 MTX AMPS PUTTING OUT 500 WATTS PER CHANNEL.. I RUN 1 ON EACH SUB..THE SOUND IS AWSOME AND SO IS THE QUALITY...BY FAR THEY BLOW AWAY MTX , I WOULD GO THROUGH THE MTX SPEAKERS IN 3-4 MONTHS WITH THE SAME AMPS....THESE ARE WELL WORTH THE MONEY AND SOUND BETTER THA 4-12"MTX SPEAKERS.... I CANT SAY ENOUGH ON HOW AWSOME THESE ARE

  • I was running the older versions of these 2 Type R's and they sounded amazing. These are the best subwoofers you could buy for the money. I think they compared to the jlw7 very closely as well. Definately get these subs if you want to be heard from around the corner. I was running an MTX 400watt amp with it.

  • Lets get to the point, I LOVE BASS.Through my life i've gone through countless subwoofers of all brands, JL,Kicker, Sony, Kenwood and Almani but, in my opinion these speakers are the best i have ever owned. I recently own 2 L7's running on a 2000w amp. and these alpines rocked my 2001 Nissan Altima at 150w per each sub, louder than the L7 at 2000. I defenetly reccomend if you want a system that will be herd 2 to 3 blocks away. GET THESE SUBS!!! Next week i'm going to install a 2000w mono black amp to these bi***es to see what they can really do.

  • I purchased two of these tens from OCS and these are by far the hardest hitting, cleanest sounding subs i have ever owned. Before these subs i had one solobaric l7 12 in a ported box and these type r's are much louder and cleaner. I would advise putting these subs in a ported box 1.25 cubic feet per chamber for optimium performance. I have these subs running off a two channel rockford fosgate p5002 at 2 ohm giving each sub about 425 watts rms. Online car stereo has both these products (the type r and the rockford fosgate)dirt cheap. Best deal on the net gurenteed.

  • Picked up 1 of these and a 1.25 cf vented enclosure. Hooked it all up to an Alpine MRP M350 and sat it on the back seat. It hasn't even broken in yet and this baby hits hard and CLEAN. I've been looking into 2 of them but this is all I need. Lets see how they hold up.

  • Have one of these running @ 2 ohm powered by an Alpine MRP-M500. I built a custom 5/8" MDF box for my 95 F-150 Xcab with approx. .70 cu ft gross air space. Hits hard and bass quality is good. Great looking and performing sub for the money.

  • i have 2 of these in my pontiac grand am gt 2002 and theys bad boys hit hard!!! most ppl think i have 12's or 15's lol ppls heads turn when im a few blocks away because they hear me coming i have them hooked up to a 2400 directed amp that puts 400 watts into each they hit so hard i had to upgrade all my other speakers to keep up with all the bass, they are also very clean.

  • I've been in the car stereo game for about 12 years now and have owned almost every type of sub imaginable. (JL, Polk, MTX, RF, Kenwood, Pioneer) I recently purchased the SWR-1042D and have it placed in a vented 1 cu ft Q-Logic box placed behind the passenger seat in my Frontier Pickup. I have it wired in a 2 ohm configuration and being powered by the Alpine MRP-500 amp turned up at about 3/4 gain. The bass is pretty impressive but not overpowering. I listen to alot of rock and a little rap and the sub responds to both genres of music nicely. I replaced a JL W3 and JL 250/1 amp with the two mentioned Alpine products and am satisfied. (especially for the price @ OCS) If I was placing these subs in the trunk of a car I would definitely get two and power them with at least 1000 watts. Overall, a nice sounding sub!!

  • These subs are very loud on the inside of the car if you dont like to show off your system these are the subs for you. but if you like to show off then i would not recommend these. i would recommend the alpine type R 12" or alpine type X 12". but very good and loud inside.

  • i have two of these in a 98 4door s10 blazer with a power acoustik 4000d amp. and they beat like hell. i hit 147.6 decibals on the meter. the virtual technology boxes are perfect for them. there great for 49hz waves but still can hit the 25-30hz just like 15's can.

  • First of all these subs are great.. I have two being pushed by a 1600 watt alpine amp in a ported box. Most people think i have 12's. In my opinion these are the best 10's you can get for what your paying.

  • I just finished installing this sub in a Mitsu Eclipse. I put it in a simple sealed enclosure, located against the rear wall of the hatchback, powered by an Alpine M500. So far, I'm absolutely thrilled with the performance. Clean, solid, rich, full bass at all listening levels. If you're after quality, this sub is hard to beat. I'm sure there are louder units out there, but that wasn't my goal. At this price, a tremendous value.
