Product Reviews For Kenwood KDC-HD545U

  • Replaced my JVC KD-G420 with this unit, and the Kenwood is a step down from the JVC. Sure, it has some nifty new features, like USB and HD radio, but that's about all I can say about the Kenwood. All ready missing my old JVC! Pros: cheap, good bang for the buck, HD radio ready, Satellite ready, sounds good Cons: Display is terrible, if you buy this radio, I hope you live where the sun never shines, because direct sunlight totally washes out the display. The display has a cheap '70s calculator feel. Micro buttons, you'll need lady fingers to operate. Hope you have better than 20/20 vision too! No attenuator! What was Kenwood thinking. You have to use the remote to attenuate the volume, our twist the volume knob, bush league! Functions are not intuative, you'll have the manual in your hands for serveral days. HD receiver not worth while, you have an annoying echo when the signal switches between analogue and digital. Dumb display changes, for example, it announces "Clock" before is dislpays the time, no kidding! Scrolls through "Standby" as you move through various outputs, this should be a separate button.

  • Unlike the other reviewer it does have an attenuator for the volume in fact there is a button for it right on the remote. And with a little common sense it's very easy to figure out all the different features. The illuminaton is fine on sunny days, and the buttons work fine for a mans hands. I have also never heard an echo changing from analouge to digital.
