Product Reviews For Boss Audio BV9150

  • What can I say this stereo is good but not great. Lets start with the good and then the bad. Good Lots of features and connections. Front and Rear AV (front av using adapter cable provided) gives ample connection for your game console, tv tuner, or media box. Rear camera rear imput, usb front imput (for video and music files not for ipod/iphone). I've also played with some mp4 video files and at least those made for ipod/iphone (not those purchased from itunes) seem to work fine. Front USB, SD card slot behind the screen and dvd all make for media most of us will have. Its touch screen is nice and responsive. The audio and video playback is good and will satisfy all but the picky audio enthusist. Detachable screen is great for those like me who have had their cars broken into even for a radio that was almost 10 years old. This was the big reason I bought. Overall its a good upgrade for those wanting to get a av headunit and don't want to spend $1000 doing it. Bad The user interface leaves a bit to be desired. I would have preferred they take away the buttons and given bigger screen with larger menus. Even with the space provided they could have increased the size of the radio station buttons. Must of it is wasted. Some controls are also hidden such as in video mode. Touching right or left will move to next place on the disc and touching the upper side will bring up basic menus and audio controls. The screen is decent but can be hard to read in direct daylight and can be a bit blinding at night. A brighter screen with a light sensor would been nice but in radio mode you can turn the screen off with one touch screen buttom and it will reappear when you touch the screen or the volume controls. When it comes to digital media this again leaves a lot to be desired. It will play most formats faithfully but loading is slow and seeing meta data is impossible as it give a small line for each mp3. When that runs out someone who isn't familar with what music is on there may have to just skip through till they find the song they desire or like. This is something that could have been made much better with the interface even with a small screen size. Overall its a good but not great indash player. For the price it had the features I wanted and more and was cheap enough if my car was broken into again it wouldn't be a investment lost. (I paid under $200 on sale) If you want the features and larger screen the newer Boss BV9562B has come down in price and has larger 7" screen and the more features as the 9150 for not much more money. (I've seen as cheap as $250)
