Why Choose Rockford Fosgate P1683 Full Range Car Speakers?
FlexFit Basket Design
Fanatics that need a great sounding speaker to replace factory installed garbage will certainly benefit from this Punch series full-range speaker. The P1683 offers a Flex Fit™ basket to ensure compatibility with odd shaped factory speaker locations and an ICC (Integrated Concealed Crossover), eliminating the need to mount any black boxes.
Features a Responsive Polypropylene Cone
Rockford Fosgate designed the Punch P1683 6"x8" speakers as a high-grade replacement for your factory speakers. Each speaker features a responsive polypropylene cone and butyl rubber surround that'll stand up to hours of high-volume jams. Rockford Fosgate uses a new technique to attach the surround to the cone that yields up to 25% more cone area, for fuller sound and stronger performance. The dome tweeter and supertweeter provide clear, extended highs that can hold their own when the bass gets heavy.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- • Why do the speakers sound quieter than the factory ones?
Check the head unit's output, speaker polarity, wiring, and mounting. Factory systems may use equalization or amplification that affects perceived loudness, so proper installation and gain settings are important.
- • Why is there a buzzing or crackling sound from the speakers?
Check the speaker terminals, wiring connections, and mounting hardware for loose components. Damaged wires, poor connections, or interference from nearby electrical wiring can also cause unwanted buzzing or crackling.
- • Can I run these directly from my factory stereo?
Yes, they can be powered by many factory head units. However, available power varies between vehicles, and an aftermarket amplifier may provide more headroom and cleaner output at higher listening levels.
- • Why do the speakers distort when I increase the volume?
Distortion can occur when the factory radio or amplifier reaches its limits. Reduce the volume slightly, check equalizer settings, and consider additional amplification if higher output is consistently required.
- • Why does one speaker sound louder than the other?
Start by checking the head unit's balance and fade settings. Then inspect both speaker connections for loose wires, damaged terminals, or reversed polarity, which can cause noticeable differences in output.
- • Why do I hear rattling after replacing the factory speakers?
Check the mounting screws, speaker adapter, door panel, and surrounding trim. New speakers can produce stronger midbass that exposes loose panels or hardware that was not noticeable with the original speakers.
- • Why do the highs sound too harsh?
Adjust the head unit's treble and equalizer settings before changing the installation. Speaker placement and the vehicle's acoustics can also affect high-frequency response, particularly when listening at elevated volume.
- • Why does the sound become weak after switching speaker polarity?
Reversing polarity between speakers can cause phase cancellation, especially in the midbass range. Make sure positive and negative terminals are connected consistently throughout the vehicle's speaker system.
- • Do I need speaker adapters for installation?
That depends on the vehicle's factory speaker openings and mounting pattern. Some applications require mounting brackets, wiring adapters, or other installation hardware to achieve a secure and properly aligned fit.
- • How can I get cleaner sound at higher volume?
Use a clean source signal, avoid excessive equalizer boosts, and make sure the speakers are securely mounted. An appropriately matched amplifier can also provide additional headroom and reduce strain on the factory radio.

I needed 4 speakers to replace the ones in my doors, and I decided to go with these instead of the power series because I wanted 3 way speakers for the highs. You would never know that these were not top of the line speakers. I have no problem dialing them up to match my T1693's. These speakers have been screaming for a year now and sound amazing!!!! Top notch!!!

I have a 93 Ford Ranger w/265,000 miles on it. I didn't want to drop a wad of cash on speakers, as I don't know "How" long the truck will last. I purchased the P1683 speakers and installed them myself with no problems. They sound great. Bass is there but, definitely not enough for "Bass Heads". Totally impressed with these speakers!

Nice and affordable full-range speakers. I had mine installed in my Ford Escape by a professional and I did not have too wait for too long. However, if you are looking for much bass, this 6x8 speaker might not be your best option.

Tossed these in the rear doors of my Ford truck, and man, they really fill out the music! No distortion, just solid sound. Thinking of grabbing another pair for the front. Make sure to pair them with a top-level amp like my P400X4 to really crank up the sound quality.
