Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- • What amplifier should I use with this subwoofer?
Choose an amplifier with an RMS power rating that closely matches the subwoofer. Proper gain adjustment helps deliver clean bass without damaging the speaker.
- • Are the speaker terminals marked clearly for positive and negative?
Yes, but always verify the polarity during installation, as reversed wiring can cause your subwoofer to play out of phase with the rest of your system.
- • Why is my subwoofer not producing enough bass?
Weak bass is often caused by incorrect enclosure volume, amplifier settings, or wiring polarity. Reviewing the installation and tuning usually improves performance.
- • Can I wire two subwoofers to one amplifier?
Yes, as long as the final impedance matches your amplifier's supported load. Always verify the wiring configuration before powering the system.
- • Why does the bass distort at higher volume?
Distortion is commonly caused by amplifier clipping or excessive gain settings. Correct amplifier tuning helps maintain clean, powerful bass.
- • Does this subwoofer require a break-in period?
Many users recommend several hours of moderate playback after installation. This allows the suspension to loosen naturally for more consistent performance.
- • Why does the subwoofer make a popping sound?
Popping may occur when the amplifier clips or the cone exceeds its mechanical limits. Lower the volume and inspect the amplifier settings before continued use.
- • Should I choose a sealed or ported enclosure for my music?
Sealed enclosures are recommended if you prioritize tight, accurate bass, while ported enclosures are better for maximizing raw output and deep frequency extension. Select the enclosure type based on your specific space constraints and your preference for either sound quality or volume.
- • Why does the voice coil smell hot after playing music?
A hot smell usually means the subwoofer is being driven near or beyond its thermal limits. Reducing the gain and using a properly matched amplifier can prevent overheating.
- • What is the recommended box volume for this subwoofer?
For sealed enclosures, the recommended volume ranges from 0.50 to 1.20 cubic feet. If you prefer a vented or ported enclosure, the recommended volume is between 0.66 and 1.20 cubic feet.

Bought a pair of 6.5s as I thought they are going to give some good bass but after a month I still feel lacking a bit. This leads me to buy this Kicker sub. Really fills what I am looking for in an audio system. Some good bass. Complements well with the 6.5s too.
