- • What does it do in a subwoofer enclosure?
A passive radiator enhances low-frequency output without using a traditional port. It helps produce deeper bass while reducing port noise in compact enclosures.
- • Why isn't the passive radiator moving very much?
Its movement depends on the bass frequencies being played and the enclosure design. If there is little excursion, check that the enclosure volume and active subwoofer are matched to the recommended specifications.
- • Can I use this without an active subwoofer?
No. A passive radiator does not produce sound on its own and must be paired with an active subwoofer driver in the same enclosure.
- • Why does the bass sound weaker after installing the passive radiator?
Weak bass is usually caused by an enclosure that is too large, too small, or improperly sealed. Air leaks and incorrect radiator tuning can also reduce low-frequency performance.
- • Does it perform better than a ported enclosure?

- • Why is it making a knocking or bottoming-out sound?
This can happen if the enclosure is improperly tuned or the system is being driven beyond its intended limits. Verify the enclosure design and reduce amplifier gain if excessive excursion occurs.
- • Can I add weight to the passive radiator to change the bass response?
Yes. Many passive radiators allow additional mass to adjust the tuning frequency, but only within the manufacturer's recommended limits.
- • Why is there an air leak around it?
An improperly sealed mounting surface or loose mounting screws can cause air leaks that reduce bass performance. Inspect the gasket and tighten the mounting hardware evenly.
- • Can I replace a port with a passive radiator in any enclosure?
Not always. The enclosure must be specifically designed or retuned for a passive radiator to achieve the desired bass performance.
- • How can I get the best bass performance from a passive radiator system?
Use the recommended enclosure volume, ensure the enclosure is completely sealed, and match the radiator to a compatible active subwoofer. Proper amplifier tuning and enclosure design have the greatest impact on overall bass quality.
