Sound GREAT with my factory head unit (no amp)

i heard mb quart reference and these sound just as good. i have them power at 55 watts and they scream. i was very impressed at the sound quality and i love the punchy bass that comes out of the sub and the tweeters are crystal clear and clean.

I have these hooked up to a sony explode 4 channel amp and a alpine cd player. I recommend running these speakers off an amp or else you will not get the full potential they have to offer. At first I thought these speakers were ok to pretty good, but then I used an active crossover to block frequencies of 150Hz and lower from entering the speakers and the quality of sound was awesome!. The bass is tight and clean. The highs are ear piercing sharp, so much so that I had to lower the treble to negative one on my apline deck. Slight distortion is hear at the limits, but that is probably due to my sony amp. I sure if I had a better amp the kappas would sound even better. If you want very sharp sounding highs the kappa tweeter will give it to you. Personally I am not a fan of the sharp highs and would probrably enjoy a smoother sounding one more, maybe from a silk dome tweeter. That is why I rate these a 9.
As far as the competition, I have heard alpine type S,kenwood, and pioneer components and I would buy the Kappas again in a hearbeat.
