I bought these speakers along with some premier 6x8's and premier amp to upgrade the stock system on my 2010 Ford Fusion.
For the highs this system is awesome. I listen to all types of music, from rap to metal, from rock to blues and jazz and I needed a system that could handle that wide range of music.
Since I always intended on adding a sub later, it didn't much matter to me if the speakers could hit bass hard. Well, the bass is decent. I suppose it's actually quite good considering the woofer is only 5.25".
But for new music (especially hip hop), having the volume cranked up plus having the bass just a little too high the woofer does get stressed and begins to distort. I have to constantly bounce back and fourth on the bass level when I switch genres.
This is partly my fault. I'm not sure what I shoulda expected from a 5.25" system. I bought 5.25" with the understanding that my Fusion had 5.25" holes in the front (big goal for me was to modify the car as little as needed). I come to find out that the Fusion had 6.75" openings.
I just ordered a 10" Kicker L5 Solobaric sub and a Kicker 500W Class D amp to round out my system and that should deliver the crisp, clear and deep bass I am looking for to compliment the ridiculous clarity on the highs that my current setup delivers.
So, in the end, I wish I woulda gotten the 6.75" version of these instead of the 5.25" version, but oh well. WHen the sub and mono amp arrive and are installed, it should make that decision irrelevant.
So my advice, get the 6.75" if you do not plan on getting a sub. But if 5.25" fits your application best, this is a great set of speakers for the project.
