Why Choose Alpine RS-W12D2 Component Car Subwoofer?
High-performance
The Alpine S-W12D2 is a high-performance 12-inch subwoofer designed to deliver powerful and accurate bass in-car audio systems. Engineered with precision and attention to detail, this subwoofer offers exceptional low-frequency reproduction with impressive clarity and impact.
Bass Reproduction Without Distortion
With a peak power handling of 1800 watts and RMS power handling of 600 watts, the S-W12D2 can handle high-power amplification, allowing for intense and dynamic bass reproduction without distortion. It features a dual 2-ohm voice coil configuration, providing flexibility in wiring options to match your amplifier's capabilities.
Subwoofer Utilizes a Cone
The subwoofer utilizes a cone from a specialized pulp/Kevlar composite material, offering excellent rigidity and responsiveness. This construction allows the cone to reproduce low-frequency sounds with minimal distortion accurately. Additionally, the subwoofer features a high-excursion HAMR (High Amplitude Multi-Roll) surround, allowing for extended cone movement and maximum output.
Integrated Dual-stacked Magnet Assembly
The S-W12D2 incorporates a robust motor structure with an integrated dual-stacked magnet assembly to ensure reliable and consistent performance. This design promotes efficient heat dissipation and reduces power compression, enabling the subwoofer to deliver consistent and powerful bass even during demanding listening sessions.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- • Can this subwoofer produce competition-level bass?
It is designed for high-output performance and can deliver powerful bass with the right amplifier and enclosure. While it performs exceptionally well, overall output depends on the entire audio system.
- • Why does my amplifier go into protect mode when I play bass?
This is often caused by incorrect voice coil wiring, low impedance, or inadequate power wiring. Double-check the wiring configuration and ensure your amplifier supports the final load.
- • Can I use a ported enclosure for louder bass?
Yes, a properly designed ported enclosure can produce higher output and deeper bass than a sealed box. Make sure the enclosure follows the recommended internal volume and port specifications.
- • Why does the bass sound stronger with the trunk open?
This is a common result of vehicle cabin acoustics and enclosure placement. Adjusting the enclosure position or phase settings can improve bass response inside the cabin.
- • Is one 12-inch subwoofer enough for a complete sound system?
Yes, one quality 12-inch subwoofer can provide excellent low-frequency performance for most listeners. Those wanting maximum output may choose to install two instead.
- • Why does the subwoofer sound tighter after a few days?
The suspension gradually loosens during normal use, which is part of the break-in process. Many users notice smoother bass response after several hours of moderate playback.
- • Can I install this in a custom fiberglass enclosure?
Yes, as long as the enclosure provides the recommended internal air volume and mounting depth. A properly built custom enclosure can perform just as well as a traditional MDF box.
- • Why do I hear air noise coming from the enclosure?
Air leaks or an improperly designed port are the most common causes of this issue. Inspect the enclosure for gaps and ensure the port dimensions meet the recommended specifications.
- • Will upgrading my amplifier make the bass louder?
Yes, if your current amplifier isn't providing the recommended RMS power. Make sure the new amplifier is properly matched and tuned to avoid distortion or damage.
- • What's the biggest mistake people make when installing a subwoofer?
Many users choose the wrong enclosure size or set the amplifier gain too high. Following the manufacturer's recommendations will provide better performance and improve long-term reliability.

Pricey but whooah! Its shallow design is amazing considering how good it sounds and how it can go low to 25 Hz for a 12 inch. Power is really there and you need a premium amp to push this sub to its best performance. You can’t really go wrong with Alpine!
